The Obamas make tuna salad, talk about favorite foods
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/09/the-obamas-make-tuna-sala_n_142483.html

Cute film!

Early into the Obama candidacy, 60 Minutes' Steve Kroft paid a visit to the family's Chicago home and was privy to some tuna salad-making (recipe below) in the kitchen. The conversation turned to other things the then-senator cooks well (Malia: "Chili and that's it"), and Obama defended himself: "The truth is, before I met Michelle I did quite a bit of cooking. I had an Indian roommate for a while, so I learned how to make Indian food. I grew up in Hawaii where there's a lot of Asian influence, so I learned how to cook Chinese food...also, the stuff I make is a little too spicy for these guys." When Obama asks his daughters what kind of food they like, they deliver a unanimous and resounding reply: "Cheese." "So," Obama continues, "it's not as if we've got real sophisticated palates in this household." Scroll down to see the video.

From what we can decipher, Obama's tuna salad recipe is as follows:

President Obama's Tuna Salad
-Tuna
-Grey Poupon mustard
-Mayonnaise
-Gherkins

33. There's more than one brand of tuna, you know. And you can even get it fresh.
You might want to look into that.

And a couple splashes of hot sauce, usually cholula. And the usual mayo, salt/pepper, pickles (never relish), and very small diced onion.

41. My recipe is pretty much the same as yours...
Sometimes I add chopped green peppers if I have them, and mustard...but that's if I am the only one to eat it.

What's really good is a tuna melt. Add a little cheddar cheese, and then grill it.

14. So you're saying Obama isn't going to eat Spaghetti-O's for lunch in the WH
I remember the revulsion a while back when the White House chef (probably one of the ones Pickles fired for attempting to put spices in the food) disclosed that when you cook lunch for Shrub, you make him a hamburger, a hot dog, a toasted cheese sandwich and a bowl of spaghetti-o's and whichever one you bring him first, he rejects it and wants something different--right now.

Which brings to mind the lyrics to this wonderful song:

There's no bread? Let them eat cake!
There's no end to what they'll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth

Yick.

(And, yes. I've tried it that way.)

But, I do adore cheese. That's the No. 1 snack in our household, too.

I just happen to have a can of solid pack Albacore in the cabinet right now. Although I'd add a little bit of Grey Poupon mustard in honor of the President-elect.

37. The best Tuna I've ever had was the.....
solid pack Albacore IN THE FOIL POUCH.
Starkist or Bumblebee are two in the foil pack.
It is incredible. No draining, no mess, just shake it out in big chunks in the bowl.
It tastes fresh..fresh...fresh. The problem is that it is a little more expensive and...once you've had it...you won't want to go back to canned tuna ever. That's a fact, Jack.
I look for it on sale and then buy a bunch.

Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 05:41 PM by trof
Mayo or Miracle Whip?
Velveeta?
If they don't use Velveeta they're effete poseurs.
Dash of Tabasco?
How adventurous are they?
;-)

I ate a lot of tuna salad when I was living in Chicago. I found one good Indian place, but the only good Mexican food I could find was Chipotle. There were plenty of good Italian restaurants, though.
