Showwa hanz .... who plans (or even is thinking about it) to be in DC on Jan 20?
I'm hoping for the world's biggest ever block party.

From what I am gathering, tickets are pretty much unavailable to the great unwashed (us), even now.

Here's a map of the area:

The swearing in will happen on the Capitol's West steps, facing The Mall. Reserved cattle pens extend to 4th Street (where the "A" in the words "The Mall" is). This is also the farthest one can probably be and still see him unaided. Beyond that is binocular range (The Mall is about 2 miles long).

I expect the entire parade route (Capitol to Constitution to Pennsylvania to the White House) will mostly be reserved seating, too, although the riff raff may be allowed on the side streets such that if one were to be carried on another's shoulders, one might be able to hold a camera even further aloft and get a picture of the passing parade.

But think of the energy that will be there that day!

The last one I attended was Clinton 1. I can't WAIT for this one!!!

3. There was an article that residents of this area are suddenly being contacted by long lost ......
...... friends and relatives looking to mooch a place to stay. We're expecting a houseful. This is the first time *ever* that every member of both my family and my inlaw families have all voted for the same person. Our invites started a few days ago and the RSVP/Yeses are coming in. We may be so crowded that the Health of Fire Department may visit us! :)

2. I would love nothing better. I've never
been to one, much as I've always wanted to. This being an especially historic one, and it being such a relief after the nightmare of the past eight years, I'd love to take my teenage son and go. The main obstacles are, of course and as usual, money and time. I'll probably have enough time, it's enough money that I won't have.

7. No word that I've heard .... but if I had to bet today, I'd say car .....
..... sadly, the Palinistas have really not been speaking well for his safety.

The Secret Service would probably prefer he take an APC with the route closed to the public and air space blocked all the way to the Pennsylvania border with Maryland.

12. I hope he walks. I know the GOP are dangerous, but ...
... he's not Dumbya--who wasn't elected by the people, who never served as the president of every American--Obama was elected by a clear majority and I am certain he will lead the way a President should.

I am also sure the Secret Service will come up with something. Maybe borrow or recreate a quasi-Pope mobile.

18. I was there for Bush 41 and Clinton 42.
They both walked part of the route. I was at Freedom Plaza right in front of the National Theater. We sat right on a wall by the steps, with a terrific view of the parade.

19. Dipshit hid in his car.
It was a disgrace.

The "President" of the United States too frightened to walk in a parade held in his "honor."

I'm so glad these GOP are going to be out of the White House and Congress.

Now we need to get them out of the Courts!

13. You can stay pretty far away and still get into town.
Seriously .... Winchester, VA area ...... Charlestown, WVA area ....... Front Royal, VA ..... Baltimore, MD ..... Fredericksburg, VA .....

These places are all an hour to two hours drive (some maybe a bit longer) from DC. Baltimore has train service to DC as do places along I270. There's also train service from Virginia. The trains all go to Union Station which is walking distance to the Capitol and The Mall.

You might not want to do that for a regular commute, but for a once in a lifetime thing ....

15. Okay! I'd love to stay wit' yez. But oh dear: DC in January vs. Santa Barbara, I don't know...
 I don't do snow and slush very well. I don't have the wardrobe for it, for one thing.

However, I had such a good time having my friends over on Election Eve that I have started thinking about inviting them over for the Inaugural too. It is just too good to miss the excuse for having a party.

I'll be thinking of you, though. :hi:

20. Do not try to buy tickets online. They are frauds.
Per CNN, write your congressperson or Senator if you want tickets. Just trying to avoid having DUers being ripped off.
