Mormons And Catholics Upset At Being The Target Of Prop 8 Protests
Hypocrisy much? The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints is unhappy about the fact that the media spotlight is trained on its participation in making Prop 8 happen.
In an official statement on the church's web site, bearing false witness and hypocrisy is the order of the day.
"It is disturbing that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is being singled out for speaking up as part of its democratic right in a free election."
<snip>
Bzzt. Wrong answer. The people protesting the church's significant role in an another state's democratic process -- members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gave millions of dollars to remove the civil rights of human beings -- are merely exercising their right to free speech to highlight that role.
<snip>
Sorry, LDS and Catholic Churches, let me pull out my tiny violin for you. You have used the tenets of your faith to infringe upon my secular government to take away rights from people, and I'm supposed to feel bad that protests are targeting you? I just don't think so. Remember Pastor Martin Niemöller? You have targeted the LGBT community today, but what happens when someone targets any faith, because it's not the "right" faith? What if they target you? Inequality is inequality and it should never be tolerated.

:nopity: There are not enough tiny little violins to use for this moaning.

3. If you throw a brick into a pack of dogs
The one that yelps the loudest is the one that got hit.
The reason they're screaming is that they ARE guilty of injecting their religions into a political matter.
You'd think that a group notorious for pedophilia and a group notorious for multiple marriages to underage girls should have enough sense to shut up.

5. I believe that the LDS is using the protest to build bridges with
the Fundies in order to push Mitt Romney in 2012. Their cry is now-"We're not a cult. We're just like you, and we are being persecuted by the same lib'ruls because of our belief in Jesus."

It will be interesting to see if they can buy the South for $25 million.

6. I think the polytheism, free love, sci fi, etc.
will make it difficult for them to win over fundamentalist Christians, few of whom consider the Mormons Christian at all.

10. And we have a winner!
Yes! This is Romney 2012 we are seeing in action. Democrats who feel that this is a 'gay issue' are running assist for the Romny Republicans, nothing less than that.

18. Buy the South for $25 million?
Um, Southern fundies are Baptists and think both Catholics and LDS are cults. I don't see that bridge meeting in the middle.

22. I swear on my grandmother grave. I once caused a fight between
a catholic and a baptist by asking what's the difference between the two religions. they had to move one of them to the other side of the room.

one of the funniest things I've seen in my short life.

27. In my youth, you were either Baptist or Communist. Things are
changing now. The Culture Wars have brokered an alliance between Fundamentalists and Catholics. I think the LDS are trying to get in the group.

26. The LDS church has definitely changed its approach in the past 20 years
A few decades ago there was a definite line between Mormons and other Christians. You didn't see them working together, you didn't see Mormons on city organizations of churches, and Mormons themselves pushed this separateness and relished the label of being different and apart. That has changed and now they are finding themselves on local groups of churches. This will prove to be an extremely powerful alliance that will have a growing impact on the country.

7. Damn! Hypocrisy is right!
Set aside everything that is wrong with Prop 8 and all the big issues surrounding it - You targeted a group of people to impose your religious beliefs upon, to deprive them of their civil rights... and you expect them to thank you for it???
:wtf:

You have NO right to complain, whine or be upset.

12. LDS and RCC started a fight they can not handle
Note that these scummy political opprotunists thought they were attacking a defensless and weak group of people, they thought they could attack with impunity and they thought the people would be silent. They incorrectly thought they themselves would suffer no result from their organized out of state thuggery.
And of all the people to start an argument about sexuality, the Roman Child Rapist and the Group Marriage Church. Frankly I don't think they are going to like the public discussion that just begining.

17. Excuse me but the
Roman Catholic Church (through their patsies, the Knights of Columbus) and FUNDIE churches combined their efforts to pass this piece of shit. ALL of them need to be targeted for their hypocrisy. They want to bring in monies from different states? Two can play that game, baby. And we need to remind people of the complicity in pedophilia (RCC and Mormons), adultery and child abuse(Mormons), and general hate for everyone not Christian, male and heterosexual (fundies).

NOBODY should get a pass on this.

15. Excellent. Keep pounding.
I've read some of the remarks of Mormons on their forums and they were absolutely fed a total line of bullshit to tout this bill. This is why thing like this SHOULD NEVER COME UP FOR A VOTE. People (collectively) are fucking dumb. The majority voting on rights for the minority...this will never work out well. Mormon $$ just further rigged the game and caused huge rifts in our state. Throwing a bomb into their camp is just returning the favor as far as I'm concerned.

charging that Proposition 8 is a violation of separation of church and state.

"Proposition 8 is not against any group in our society. Its sole focus is on preserving God's plan for people living upon this earth throughout time," Cardinal Roger Mahony, archbishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles, said in a statement Thursday.

If it's sole focus is to preserve God's plan, then it has no business being a part of the State of California's laws. If Cardinal Roger Mahony was a party to this initiative two things 1) this is clear admission that the initiative was proposed in order to violate the separation of church and state, and 2) he needs to lose his tax exempt status.

I'm not an attorney, but I think this is an angle they should pursue.
