Michelle's mom is apartment hunting in DC? |
|
I was stunned to read this in the Boston Herald Sunday?
I know she wants to be nearby to help with her granddaughters.
I am shocked it was in the paper.
anybody recall how other presidents mothers-in-law lived in DC? isn't there somewhere safe available nearby for her? I can't imagine what "Apartment hunting" for her must entail. Does she get secret service? do they have to approve her living arrangements?

1. I thought I heard she was moving in with the Obamas. |
|
Seems there'd be enough room for her.

4. No, I am sure she will be living in the White House |
|
with the Obamas. Why would she move into an apartment? That doesn't make any sense.

5. Everybody needs a refuge. Being in the WH has a lot of drawbacks, which is why... |

ER got a NYC apartment, Bess T left for Independence for weeks at a time and Jackie K insisted they get a weekend house in VA.
It's suffocating in a lot of ways.

6. Did you ever live with your mother- in law? |
|
I think the answer why she wants to live near but not with is pretty self-explanatory.

8. Mrs. Robinson is reputed to value her "independence" and autonomy. |
|
I have little doubt she's wary of interfering in the relationship between Michelle and Barack ... while she certainly prizes her relationship to her grandchildren and has a VERY good relationship with her son-in-law. I doubt it's a question of there being "room" at the White House and more a question of Mrs. Robinson having the liberty of having a personal life. After all, she has a son and daughter-in-law as well and probably prizes her relationship with them as well. Should she encumber her ability to vist them? Should she encumber their freedom to visit with her and not undergo the scrutiny of the goldfish bowl?
How many people would like to live AT THE OFFICE? How many people could accept the kind of tyranny of living at the White House? Personally, I rather like being able to come and go unobserved, skip my shower occasionally, and maybe go a day or two without shaving without dealing with tabloid crap.
