It's Time To Create A Religion Based On Gay Marriage |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 12:22 PM by stopbush
I'll leave it to others to work out the details, but perhaps it would be easier to fight Prop 8 as an infringement of religious freedoms, rather than civil rights, as religious freedoms appear to be more sacrosanct in the country than civil rights.

1. There are a number of Christian denominations that already support gay marriage. |

3. You could use the term marriage but skip the legal rights of civil unions? |
|
I prefer the legal rights and would continue to fight for the term marriage later

4. Impossible. That Would Only Give Them The Right To Religiously Marry. |
|
There is no religion that can be created that dictates what governmental benefits should be available.
If such a concept was able to be done, I'd create the "God demands I receive a million dollar check each week for the rest of my life" religion.

6. It wouldn't work. There is no law preventing people from entering this socio-religious construct |
|
Anyone and everyone can get socially "married", and nothing infringes upon that right.
It is the state construct in which legal rights are derived from that is being denied. They call this "civil marriage", but that is merely a label for this designation (much like a "401K" is a label for a non-taxable retirement fund). People need to understand (on all sides) that these two constructs are entirely different. One does not infringe upon the other.

other single, similar aged men at a time when it was almost the law that they be married. Best friends with a woman who seems like the perfect 'fag-hag'. There are many verses that talk about the love between the men, the kissing, even the laying down together.
Hell, if we weren't allowed to interpret the Bible to our benefit, there would only be one denomination.
Wouldn't be hard to make a case for Christ the Queer and ONLY us homos could get into heaven. Tax breaks, automatic protection from any sort of discrimination. Hate crimes coverage. Job protections. Automatically make all those state amendments unconstitutional on the Federal level.
Watching fundie's heads of every major and minor denomination explode. Most especially fun would be applying for membership as a Baptist church!
The hard part would be living long enough to enjoy any of the benefits.

8. Gay Liberation Theology. |
|
:)
I briefly heard a gay evangelical talking about her "mission" yesterday -- which was basically to educate the Christian community. She was great.
