American Automakers -

1. Vigorously opposed federal funding of nationwide mass transit for urban areas (1950's).
2. Together with the oil companies opposed the expansion of the passenger and freight rail infrastructure.
3. Stridently opposed meaningful CAFE standards

I should spend my money to help them continue to build poorly made, overpriced vehicles because ....

1. I feel the same way.

They've had 30 years to come up with fuel efficienct vehicles or vehicles which could use alternative energy sources, but did not. Free market, my tush.

2. We need new companies.

Same workers and Union.

New companies that take the best and most innovative engineers and workers from the old and throw the old men and their old boys network on it's ass in the cold.

First mover in a reliable/affordable non-combustion engine wins.
