I am a straight, middle age, married women and I support gay marriage.
Of course I support gay marriage because I support all civil rights. But I also support gay marriage because I don't want someone coming along and telling me that my husband and I cannot be legally married because we have different religious backgrounds, or because we cannot have children, or any other reason they decide is important.
If we take away anyones civil rights we all lose. That's all.

21. Sometimes I wonder if the Mormons are angling to get government out of the bedroom
So they can have multiple wives again. Sure, some of their fundies still try, but the mainstream Mormons at least nominally obey the laws.

I wouldn't really care if they only messed with educated adult women instead of keeping their people ignorant and marrying girls too young to know anything.

We also lived together out of wedlock for almost ten years before we married, and I'm sure there are tons of people who would have liked to have stoned us to death for that.

This whole discussion has been a huge wake up call to me.

It has also caused me to reflect personally on the huge difference Gay people and other individuals with different sexual orientations have made on my life. Not to get involved in this fight would vitiate every moral bone in my body. It is a "must-do."

You wrote it perfectly. Thank you.

For everybody. It is becoming increasingly clear that the only objections left are religious in nature and therefore do not belong in our Constitution. Any of them. Everyone should have equal access. It should not be a matter that comes up for a vote.

because I support civil rights for all people, gays have not negatively affected my life but enriched it, as most people have, and I don't want anyone saying my marriage is illegal. It boggles my mind that it once was and that we still have to avoid particular parts of the state in this day and age. It's just sickening that so many people are more interested in what we actually do in bed than the good lives we lead.

who has always supported equality.

Many of us out here in California campaigned and campaigned against Prop. 8; we were badly outgunned in terms of financial resources (literally millions flooded into the state from the Relgious Hardright).

We are dedicated to get this horror struck by the courts or repealed.
