This is part of what we are up against - Equal Marriage (and family) Rights

This 'fine' woman was flipping us off at Saddleback Church yesterday. She did show her face until I yelled how unchristian it was to flip us off. Then she hid behind her sign.

I am not backing down from this fight.

1. Damn, I hate it when assholes like that give my belief system a bad
name.
It's people like that who have made me avoid being a church-going Christian for about a decade now.

4. Granny, if you miss it
there are fine churches out there that would welcome you. People still read the words and know what they mean. They're just not the kind of people who agitate for political power and try to legislate against the stuff they consider sinful but others don't.

5. I hear you.
Check out the UCC church. Many of their churches are open and affirming. My life partner (I am not calling him my husband any more) and I have found a UCC church near us and are planning on attending services there this Sunday.

I'm with you.

The discussion I have seen here has totally overwhelmed me. I want to have some role in this fight, just like my parents fought for the civil rights of African Americans back in the sixties.

To echo your sentiments: "I am not backing down from this fight." To your credit, you have been fighting this fight. I'm new to it, I admit. But I'm here to stay.

Loan me some of your courage!

6. Just knowing that I am not alone in this fight has given me all the courage I need.
Write letters to the editor, send money to Lambda Legal and the ACLU if you are able. And if you can attend a protest near you, by all means do.

Stand and be counted.

I would rather stand for something than fall for everything.

9. Yes, exactly.
I was just about to post a request to ask where to donate. Thank you for the organization names.

7. She was particularly vile
And probably would not have been quite as "courageous" had she been standing right next to any of us.

11. hecklers and counter protesters are always interesting,
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 05:31 PM by jonnyblitz
the scariest hecklers/counterprotesters I ever saw were at the March For Womens Lives a few years back in D.C. They were particularly nasty towards the males in attendence, calling us wimps and fags and mommy's boys while holding their nasty anti-choice signs. They seemed particularly offended that men would attend and support this women's march.

13. I used to participate in the annual "Take Back the Night" marches in Minneapolis
The contradiction of feeling empowered, strong and safe during the march and week and vulnerable when leaving the march was surreal.

14. This is a hatred I don't understand. The magnitude of the hatred scares me.
One of my favorite comedy/talk shows is "Ron and Fez" on XM. They are very cool people. It is a bit vulgar and aimed at a younger male audience. Fez is gay. They interviewed a woman from an organization called "God Hates Fags." Ron made a complete idiot of them, but they were so dumb they didn't even know they were being satirized. And their children came on the air and sang anti-Gay songs. It was horrific.

I am just having trouble accepting or understanding the depth of this hatred.

15. The saddest thing that happened for me yesterday
was seeing children my daughter's age (she is 7) and younger giving us the thumbs down from the back seats of their parents' cars.

Hate is a learned behavior.
