which, honestly, is more than I could say for that wax figure called Laura Bush. She's one of those women that adapts to her husband as if she were a pair of tighty whities. She might have had a personality if she had married someone else, but she chose the big money road and ended up with idiot. It's nobody else's fault.

She is going to absolutely rule in international settings. People in other countries are going to be breathless over her, her style and her bearing. She is also going to be a new exemplar of self-image and beauty for a lot of black women. She has that ineffible "je ne se quois" that drives the French, those arbiters of style, into grand mal convulsions.

In that hazy world of intangibles, the Obama clan brings much to the table. Some of those intangibles have yet to even be considered.

And one other thing: Hip Hop Culture, while being a valid and reasonable phenominon, especially in light of its causations from the last 30 years, has been getting a little long in the tooth. Something tells me that it is going to be enjoying some systemic modifications from the example of the Obama clan. Whether that is "good" or "bad" is quite immaterial. That said, change at any level of society is natural. I can see a lot of young African-American children looking to the Obama girls as exemplars. That will be a good thing.

On edit: As Will Smith(who is one of the few entertainment figures of any ilk that I truly LIKE) said on Oprah, about Obama: "We(meaning the African-American citizens of the US) no longer have any excuses". A most prescient statement, Mr. Smith. Most prescient, indeed.
