2. Because they are bullies, and project their own mentalities onto others.
That's the best answer I can come up with.

The Republicans who seem the most paranoid are usually the ones with the least intellectual curiosity and the biggest tendencies to shout down people they disagree with, or use violence or the threat of violence to get their way.

They imagine we are the same way, and that Obama is a thug like they are.

I wish I knew how to get through to these people, but it hasn't come to me yet. :)

3. They have fears rising from their subconcious minds.
They have to rationalize the fears before it drives them insane.
They make up stories to rationalize their fears.
They need psychiatric help.

5. I heard a Hannity caller say that she believes...
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 08:11 PM by Beartracks
... that Obama's plan is to ruin the country's economy so we become too weak to fight off a terrorist takeover. Mind you, she didn't say that she anticipated that this would be a RESULT of Obama's policies, but that it is actually his PLAN.

And don't gig me for listening to Hannity. LOL I was waiting for a traffic report on the local station, and had to put up with him for a few minutes. Although I gotta say it can be entertaining for a few minutes anyway, until...   :puke:

So are liver flukes.

9. authoritarians have an over-sensitive fear response
People who have oversensitive fear responses tend to lean conservative because they need the strength of authority figures (church, nation, military, tradition) to lean on. They see threats nobody else sees and see them more strongly. The fact that they felt desegregation and now feel gay marriage will destroy society is proof enough.

Its also why conservatives are so terrified of Iran and were so terrified of third world countries in Latin America going communist.

Not much you can do about it. They'll always live in a state of fear and fawn over the military and tradition to protect them from it.

10. Because they are PPD
"People with paranoid personality disorder (PPD) have long-term, widespread and unwarranted suspicions that other people are hostile, threatening or demeaning. These beliefs are steadfastly maintained in the absence of any real supporting evidence. The disorder, whose name comes from the Greek word for "madness," is one of ten personality disorders . . .People suffering from PPD are very difficult to deal with. They never seem to let down their defenses. They are always looking for and finding evidence that others are against them. Their fear, and the threats they perceive in the innocent statements and actions of others, often contributes to frequent complaining or unfriendly withdrawal or aloofness. They can be confrontational, aggressive and disputatious. It is not unusual for them to sue people they feel have wronged them. In addition, patients with this disorder are known for their tendency to become violent."

14. my clueless racist boss had a "moment" today at the office, he said
that he was offended that our local newspaper ran a large picture of Obama on Sunday on the front page, of all the nerve, "just shoving it in our faces" that a black man was elected President. "You know 50% of us didn't vote for him" and he's calling to cancel his subscription over it today because having a "black man on the cover was offensive to so many old people"..... on and on he went. It was horrible!!!

13. uh, we have our own paranoid members
a great deal of it as strange or stranger than that

but i would say that in general, people just imagine the absolute worst thing that, in their minds, could happen, and say that the politician they dislike would do that. Maybe take one vote, or an offhand comment, and assume that it's the central plank of their platform

17. Because the RW live for fear. Fear is as essential to them as food, air and water.

Even right wingers who are are afraid of nothing
speak in the language of fear.

"America is the most powerful nation on the face
of the planet", said Bush after 9/11, "Bring it on"

But how does he and the rest of the RW cadres respond.

Gated communities, super max security to travel from
LAX to Australia of all places.

Anyone with a funny name is on a no fly list including
people with unfunny names like Kennedy.

Every argument at a checkout counter ends up with a
swat team response involving anywhere from 2 to 17
cops.

Miranda rights are shouted to you as you're wrestled to
the ground with a gun to your head. If the officers in
fear for their lives don't shoot you first.

Well it, "looked" like a weapon even though it was a
cell phone, a wallet or a comb.

Enemies are on the run in the war on terror but they still
have the miraculous capability of launching nuclear armed
ballistic missiles that can reach America. HOW this is
possible is never mentioned by the geniuses in the Pentagon.

The operant rule in the knavish fear culture we live in is
that if it is possible that the terrorists could pierce our
defenses it will happen tomorrow. We have to act as if
they will kill us in our beds or in our workplaces unless give
up even more of our privacy and economic resources.

Barack is taking charge of a country that is morally and economically
bankrupt and is attempting, through the latest financial 'crisis',
to hold a gun to the head of the rest of the world and say, "keep giving
us credit or we will sink the world monetary system."

Or as the National Lampoon succinctly put it in 1973
