A rant about San Francisco voter turnout: Retraction
Some of you who were awake late on election might might recall a very strongly worded rant that I wrote about allegedly low voter turnout in San Francisco. I used numbers on a report from the secretary of state, which purported to show 100% of the results but did not do so. I apparently touched a nerve, because my rant made the Greatest Page in all of its NSFW glory.

But in light of revised numbers from the City and County of San Francisco Department of Elections, I unreservedly retract my comments and apologize to those who were offended by them.

As of this writing, voter turnout reported by the department is now 73.95%, which actually is among the highest turnout rates in the state. Furthermore, a new report from the secretary of state suggests that there are more than 60,000 ballots still to be counted in San Francisco, which will make the final turnout percentage even higher.

So again, I apologize for mischaracterizing the overall behavior of San Francisco voters in this election.

1. Thank you.
I knew it wasn't right and I'm pretty sure I pointed that out on your thread. FYI, my neighborhood... the Castro, has the highest turn out in the city at 82.25%. We usually have the highest turn out.

And, I really do appreciate the apology.

5. I live in the Castro too, I voted a week early at City Hall and the line was 100
feet long, but it only took about 20 minutes to vote--they were very well organized. So I couldn't believe that urnout was low and am glad to hear it wasn't.

4. I feel better knowing that the
beautiful city of SF, which I once called home, is still the best.

I miss that attitude...at least the one that was there in the late '70's thru the mid '90's. Living there was the only way I survived Raygun and Poppy.
