1. Lieberman IS a traitor, and Obama's request shows what a traitor Lieberman is, and highlights it in
a way that is almost genius.

Once again, Obama has handled this situation perfectly.

4. I see no reason Lieberman should chair ANY committee or subcommittee.
Bernie Sanders doesn't ... and Bernie Sanders is FAR less cooperative with the right wing.

7. But isn't that due to Sanders being a new Senator - low seniority despite his House service?
He's listed among the Democrats in the seniority rankings on a couple of committees, but he only entered the Senate in 2006, didn't he?

Still, he's a much better Dem vote than JoeLie

14. I was thinking about main committees - those chairs are based on seniority. nt

5. I wrote this form letter to Harry Reid earlier
Dear Senator Reid,

Please watch the following compilation of Joe Lieberman stabbing the Democratic Party in the back, time and time again before you consider his fate.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KXPsHqiTf0

When Joe Lieberman thought the GOP would win, he worked against everything we have fought for in a blatant attempt to be a heavy in the GOP. Now that the GOP has lost, he's back-tracking faster than a Moon-landing denier getting punched in the face by Buzz Aldrin

Some might consider booting him off his panel position a petty partisan act, but in reality, we have no time to be concerned about what Joe's backers think.

We have a new mandate with Barack Obama, use it. Get rid of Joe Lieberman.

6. If the Junior Senator from Conneticut wants to caucus with the Democratic Party...
he had better bloody JOIN the Democratic Party.

That means signing on to the FULL manifesto for what the Democratic Party stands for.

If he wants to be an independent then fine by all means. But don't expect any membership to any committees, let alone chairing them.

Mark.

11. Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer
Lieberman has not only betrayed his party, but destroyed his career. Obama is making a smart move by not releasing him, because now Lieberman owns him and this is the best way to keep an eye on him.

12. Other: Make him Obama's bitch!
Lieberman gambled on McCain being the guy who'll be in the Oval Office on Jan. 20th. He gambled and lost, and now he's got some enormous debts to pay. Debts incurred through stabbing the Democratic Party and Barack Obama in the back.

So I say we collect those debts, one favor at a time. A vote against a filibuster here, a vote for Obama's plan to end the Iraq war there. As Vito Corleone was fond of saying "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse."

Joe's in no position to negotiate right now. You think the GOP's going to give him any rank on their side of the aisle if switches parties? No, he'll be a backbencher. I say we take away his chair of the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, give him a chair in some other committee, like Education or something, where the issues he'll be dealing with are issues where he votes with the Democrats. In exchange for letting him save face, demand a loooooooooong series of concessions. No siding with the GOP on filibuster votes, vote for our SCOTUS justices, vote for our bills in Iraq, health care, the economy, etc. Make him Obama's bitch.

People keep getting skeptical, but trust me, Obama and the rest of the Democrats do know perfectly well how to enforce agreements when each side doesn't trust the other. Obama especially - he got his spurs in Chicago.

Really, the Democrats should be yanking Lieberman around by the short-and-curlies.

13. A vote is a vote.
I don't care for the guy, but there's no point in alienating someone you might need to pass bills in the future. And didn't the Dems kick him out in his last election?

15. Reid should hold firm on but not kick him out. Let Holy Joe leave of his own accord.
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 02:27 PM by Alexander
If he still thinks that's a good idea.

He shouldn't have his chairmanship, though.

17. Dump him.
Have him sit on the committee, yet not chair it. He will still have a voice. Just not control.
