ACTION ALERT: National Day of protest against Prop. 8
This site lists protest locations for each state. The date is THIS SATURDAY. I don't have to tell DUers that Prop. 8 goes WAY beyond California. Please join us if you can

http://jointheimpact.wetpaint.com/?t=anon

Mods: If we could keep this in GD instead of moving it to a forum most people don't visit, I'd appreciate it.

3. I can't get to Milwaukee, WI on Saturday
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 08:38 AM by HelenWheels
is there something else I can do?

I'm attending a wedding that day, ironic isn't it, while it's a male/female wedding I believe they are supporters of marriage for all adult couples.

Edit: This is goddess40, I forgot to sign out of my mom's name and into mine. Although she is also a supporter.

4. I'm sure donations are always welcome but if you could
lend your voice and body to the protest, MAYBE the MSM will pick it up. The haters need to see the backlash that is coming their way.

9. Here's an important suggestion for anyone protesting
Bring crosses -- big ones. You can paint stuff on them like "Do not crucify gay people on a cross of hate" or stuff like that. Why?

We had a demo in Palm Springs on the Friday after the vote. It was right after the election, people were hurt and a lot of them upset and angry.

Some idiot woman, claiming she was "expressing her religious beliefs" charged into the crowd carrying a huge styrofoam cross. Some of the protestors grabbed the cross and broke it up. They shouldn't have done that, but they were pretty emotional.

Now, the cops are trying to pressure the woman into pressing charges and the fundie nuts in town are trying to get the police to classify this as a hate crime.

We need to take their own symbols away from them. If there are demos all over the country, you can be sure the fundies will show up with their crosses. If we are carrying them too, it takes away any effect they have, including attracting the attention of the TV cameras.

Just a suggestion from an old '60s radical.

10. The fundies here in Mass. have a big, orange Helium balloon that says "Jesus is Lord."
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 08:53 AM by IanDB1
Maybe we need a giant Helium balloon of our own.

Or a b.b. gun.

12. Another 60's radical here.
Some other suggestions for a cross:

"Hate is not a family value."

"Right now three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
1 Corintheans 13:13

Off the top of my head . . .

My daughter's sign will say

Although the campaign against Prop 8 put in a great deal of effort, I didn't see a whole lot in the way of public support for it, outside of the fundraisers I attended.

50. I read about a church in Lansing, MI that was disrupted during the service.
I would think entering a church to protest would hurt the cause for equal rights. Interested in any responses.
