There's no provenance to their claims.
President-elect Obama's one mention of firearms was a supports of gun-owners' rights.

If the Dems are smart they'll leave this alone.
Legalizing drugs would save far more lives and destroy the gangs far more effectively than trying to control hardware. If we're going to go down for something in 2010 or 2012, I'd rather it be for legalizing pot and other drugs than waging jihad against rifles with pistol grips.

Was the place packed?
Did you observe a "run" on firearms and ammunition?
Did you buy anything for yourself, or as a holiday gift for someone else?
BTW I both donated to and voted for Barack. I am a hard-core RKBA advocate and a federally licensed gun collector with a substantial investment in collectable firearms.

But they are really taken out of context.
I believe he will apply a broader view to running the country, as compared to representing one largely urban area that has a particularely bad problem with violent crime.

that Barack Obama has ever suggested most, if any, of these ten points. They are so extreme I can't imagine any situation in which Obama, a centrist moderate, would have said anything that, even out of context, could be supportive of this.
I think it's a complete made-up fantasy and scare tactic.

33. They're extrapolating his views when he was a local legislator... |
|
in Illinios to the national level, as well as some of the useless state laws that Illinois already has in force. - This is from extreme safe-storage laws that mandate that all firearms must be rendered mechanically useless and unloaded when not in actual use. These laws effectively render guns useless for self-defense because you cannot deploy them rapidly during an intrusion or other dangerous event.
- Big cities as a rule hate lawful concealed-carry. The residents there, seeing the death from violent criminals. gangs, and drug-turf battles, have often adopted a zero-tolerence policy on carrying guns in public, including preventing law-abiding people from getting a CCW permit. Illinois is one of only two states that does not have any provision at all for Average Joe to get a permit.
- This is something that some politicians, including I believe Dennis Kucinich, want to do. It's related IMO to #2. After all, if you can't carry concealed you don't need a handgun and if you can't own a handgun there's no reason to issue CCW permits.
- I suppose this could be done by restricting the number of federal licences the ATF hands out, but I doubt it.
- This one relates to the "we have to ban ammo that can pierce police body armor" talking-point. Unfortunately, virtually all rifle ammuntion is powerful enough to shred a typical beat-officer vest, even the soft-nosed, expanding hunting bullets. Only the really heavy stuff that the bomb squad and combat troops wear can stop rifle bullets. Duty vests on patrol officers are only heavy enough to stop pistol ammunition.
- Dunno where this one is coming from. But the anti-gun movement has tried to tax gun ownership to death before, such as a 10-cent-per round "sin tax". Which is ridiculous, considering that the most common cartridge in America costs 3 cents per round.
- Not sure about this one, although I'll note that many countries do not take away voting rights even for convicted felons.
- This one is true. It's the misnamed "Assault weapons ban", the renewal of which is in the Democratic Party platform and that Democrats tried to both renew and expand in the previous session of Congress. See HR1022 for details.
- This is something that Illinois does, an Firearms Owner ID card, and you have to have it on you whenever carrying a firearms. You also need it to purchase guns. I'm not sure if you need it to purchase ammunition.
- Well, just like Bush did, Obama's going to appoint judges that he likes the records of, which means liberal-leaning justices. Unfortunately gun-control is part of the liberal political philosophy.
