CNN just reported AIG had another huge getaway at Phoenix costing
us by using our money already given them over $300,000. They tried to hide it by no AIG signs anywhere. Tired of this crap. Make them pay us back. How much more are they going to let these guys get away with.

4. When are these thieving bastards going to jail?
They keep stealing our money and having a ball with it, while people are unemployed and in some cases, starving and homeless. I would like to see them arrested and prosecuted for theft.

:grr:

5. The Phoenix local news had the story on last night - link
from the story:

After an ABC15 undercover investigation showed AIG executives holding poolside meetings and dining at an upscale restaurant in Phoenix, U.S. Congressman Elijah Cummings wants AIG's CEO Edward Liddy to resign.

"A person who's drowning doesn't jump up and start partying," Cummings said. "We've made it clear to them we do not want one dime being spent on these junkets."

and...

AIG made significant efforts to disguise the conference, making sure there were no AIG logos or signs anywhere on the property. A hotel employee told ABC15, "We can't even say the word ."

The three-day event at the resort was also supposed to feature hall of fame football quarterback Terry Bradshaw as a motivational guest speaker, but the company canceled Bradshaw's appearance shortly before the start of the conference, according to a company spokesperson. According to the Washington Speakers Bureau, which manages Bradshaw's speaking engagements, he commands a fee of more than $40,000 per appearance.

8. I Defended the Principle of the Bailout
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 11:29 AM by ribofunk
on the grounds that the economy would collapse otherwise. But this is indefensible.

On Edit: I have a different impression after reading the article and seeing the tape. Conferences like this are an integral part of their business -- it's arguably more important during this crisis. You filmed pictures of the poolside but not the working sessions. The gross cost was about $2,000 a person ($300k / 10 financial managers), a lot of that offset by registration fees and other sponsors.

At the executive level they seem to be dealing with, this is pretty standard. They could have dispensed with a few things like the limos, but the appearance of financial desperation is absolute death in this situation. It can cause panic all by itself. The reporters who said "why can't they have it at the Holiday Inn" are clueless.

AIG executive do seem to be greedy and out of touch. I think they should be collecting NO bonus money until they can make money without government support. That is a much bigger deal financially. But I think the local reporters were just getting their rocks off taking surreptitious video on this one.

9. Congress needs to do something about this
They can find a way to stop this...they seem to think they're powerless. It's especially annoying that US auto companies haven't gotten any help but AIG is taking taxpayer funded vacations.
