Okay, according to my number of posts I haven't been here very long. But I've actually been reading and loving the DU for several years and it was the "Top 10 Conservative Idiots" list is what drew me too it.

I'm such a geek. This beautiful, intelligent, funny, and engaging list is the highlight of my week. It actually makes me look forward to Mondays!

EarlG, I know you have another little DUer in the house. Congratulations! You must thrilled right now but also have your hands full. We understand completely. But please, PLEASE post another "Top 10..." ASAP! Or Top 20, or 30, or 100!" I'm sort of going through Top 10 withdrawal right now. So much has happened in the last month, and though we did kick a bunch of idiots out of Congress and the White House there is still no shortage of idiocy in this country. Return as soon as you can. Due to the imminent arrival of my first child - he's expected in just a few days time - the Top 10 is going on hiatus next week, and will likely not return until after the election. If all goes well then the next time I write the list we'll be just a few weeks away from the end of this eight-year-long Republican nightmare, and looking towards a brighter future.

34. Top Ten was how I found DU - I was doing a search of the "idiot Bush" back in early 2001

when I accidentally ran across "The Top Ten Conservative Idiots"....there was just a couple of thousand usernames then....(I've had a couple myself in the past 7 1/2 plus years).

DU certainly was different back then, I'm sure you all recall...very few rules then, mostly hardcore liberals like myself, I loved it and stayed through the years...good witting, great energy that seemed to pop off the screen, excellent debate, the site was basic, raw & primitive compared to today. Sill, there seemed to be a lot of freepers even back then.

The Top Ten Conservative Idiots, takes a lot of time and work I'm sure....But it's a DU tradition and it's “trademark”..... informative review, motivation, anger & always great laughs as well!

The Good Guys are heading into D.C., it's true, so maybe the column could use a tweak of perspective.

For one thing -- we should all take a minute to enjoy this moment. The Republicans are having so many internal squabbles and intramural pissing contests (between party 'realists' and party 'hard-liners'), it's like a flotilla of fire ships in New York harbor, celebrating the Obama victory.

But on the other hand, there's still plenty of B.S. to deal with.

From Ted Stevens to Norm Coleman to Saxby Chambliss. What happened to all those newly registered voters -- everywhere in the country -- whose votes never showed up in final vote tabulations? Let's hope the manual recount of paper ballots in Minnesota -- originally processed through 'black box' vote machines -- will dispel any remaining pretense about the accuracy, or integrity, of those systems.

And of course, there's always the gift that keeps on giving. The unintended consequences of the Other Side's putting people in the spotlight on the basis of their ability to read a script -- who all know their 'movement conservatism' mantra's backwards and forwards -- but don't know how to think.

The most recent one I saw was a couple of days ago, when Palin was responding to criticsm that she 'didn't know' Africa wasn't a country. In her quoted reply, in my hometown paper, she said:

"If there are allegations based on questions or comments that I made in debate prep about NAFTA, and about the continent versus the country {emphasis added} when we talk about Africa there, then those were taken out of context..."

...Africa there... At one time, I was a naturalized Minnesotan, but that still sounds awful.

But the main thing in that quote was -- She did it again! Instead of using the plural, or saying "the individual countries," or "the community of African nations," maybe, she failed to make the critical distinction between

"One continent"

and

"Many countries."

What a maroon.
