Failed Presidential candidate John McCain (R-AZ) is getting right back into the only thing he knows how to do successfully: running for Senate. Only this time, it isn't in his home state of Arizona. No, John McCain is back out on the stump for Saxby Chambliss (R-GA).
Chambliss' name might sound familiar to you. He is the scum of the earth that ran this ad six years ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKFYpd0q9nE&eurl=http://www.vetvoice.com/If you don't know Max Cleland's story, you probably think the disgusting part of that ad is equating the then-incumbent Senator with Osama bin Laden. But that is small potatoes compared to what is really going on here.
I'm not a guy who is quick to anger. However, for the last six years the name Saxby Chambliss has caused my blood to boil because this is the worthless excuse for a human being that accused Max Cleland, who lost three limbs leading troops on the battlefield in Vietnam, of not having the courage to lead.
Not only did Chickenhawk Saxby disrespect and disregard Max Cleland's sacrifice, he also has spent a good deal of his time in the Senate working against those of us who did serve:
# Chambliss Voted Against the New GI Bill for Veterans of the Wars in Iraq & Afghanistan.
# Chambliss Has Opposed Vets' Program Funding At Least 23 Times in the Senate Alone.
# Chambliss Opposed Additional Funding for Traumatic Brain Injury Research-A "Signature Wound" of the War in Iraq.
# Chambliss Twice Opposed Guaranteeing Troops Time At Home Between Deployments.
# Chambliss Twice Voted Against Funding for Armored Vehicles.
# Chambliss Opposed Funding For Equipment And Armor For Troops.
# Chambliss Voted Against Health Care Funding for Active Duty Military.
# Chambliss Voted Against 3.9 Percent Pay Raise for Military Personnel.
# Chambliss Voted Against Increasing Healthcare for Troops.
# Chambliss Voted Against Additional $3 Billion to Protect Troops from IEDs.
# Chambliss Voted Against Funding for Veterans' Health Care.
# Chambliss Chose Tax Cuts for the Wealthy Over Additional Veterans Spending.
Saxby, however, is picking his fight with the wrong guy. His opponent is Vietnam Veteran and VoteVets endorsed candidate Jim Martin. After Saxby's nauseating attacks on Max Cleland, we can't let him get away with another dishonorable campaign against a fellow Veteran.
Now McCain is coming to town to help Saxby Chambliss return to the Senate to continue his radical anti-troop, anti-Veteran agenda. McCain won Georgia last week by five points, and Saxby will ride the coat tails of one of the few bright spots of John McCain's sad campaign into the living rooms of old southern money all over the state. John McCain and Saxby Chambliss want to fill up the campaign coffers to run the same kind of dishonorable attacks against Chambliss' opponent in the December 2nd runoff election.
While McCain did win in Georgia, all isn't bleak. McCain took the state by 15 percent less than George W. Bush's margin of victory in 2004. Georgians are trending blue, and that's an environment in which Jim Martin can win. Martin has already shown an ability to run a tough race by keeping within three percent of Saxby in the general election and forcing the runoff.
This fight will be tough, but certainly possible. Jim Martin can't defeat the vile underbelly of humanity that is Saxby Chambliss without the help of vets like us. Consider dropping some support on Jim so we can get Chickenhawk Saxby, who got six deferments while Jim was serving in Vietnam, out of office.
