Americans giving less of our money to the auto industry is a good thing.
People have found out cars can last longer than 3 years. We don't have to give them our money, and we sure don't have to give them taxpayer money. When they fail other car companies will be created to take their place. This is not new for the auto industry, it's just been a long time with the current group of companies.

GM can run their little veiled "please help us we are an esteemed old company," ad all they want, hopefully it won't cause us to dump money into them.

3. Tell that to the million or more people who will lose their jobs
should GM fail.

GM employees are just the start of that avalanche.

Suppliers
Dealers
Health Care workers in areas were GM is predominant employer
Hotel workers housing business people dealing with GM
Restaurant workers
Day Care workers who depend on GM employees to bring their kids to day care
Gas Station owners who fuel the employees traveling to work

The list goes on and on and as GM folds and the others follow, it snowballs.

Good night to what is left of US economy.

5. Yeah it's good thing all right
It'll cut down on pollution because with all the lost jobs, nobody will be able to afford cars. It'll promote fitness because people will have to walk everywhere. It'll promote dieting because people won't be able to buy food. It should provide millions with survival skills they never dreamed they had because they will have to live on the streets by their wits. Yep, sounds like a good thing all right.

6. Someone will replace them and produce cars. Spending billions to save GM for GM's sake is utter

stupidity.

7. Can you guarantee that?
Yeah, maybe some company which will pay considerably less, offer little or no health care, not care about retirees, not care about seniority, etc. We need the auto industry in the USA. There are still some of us who drive American made cars and always will. I can proudly say that I have never owned a foreign made car. I do drive a Ford now, but have owned GM vehicles in the past. May own one again someday too.
