Neel Kashkari, Bailout Czar, Not A Fan Of Public Questions

When it came time for questions, the former Goldman Sachs executive told the eager audience that he had time for just "two or three."

In response to the first question, about the government's latest lifeline for beleaguered insurance company American International Group, Kashkari gave a clipped response before quickly moving on.

"This morning's action at AIG was a one-off event" that was necessary for the financial stability of the markets, he said. "He didn't say anything that I couldn't have learned from going to the Web site," griped one mortgage entrepreneur. Treasury spokeswoman Jennifer Zuccarelli said it's not unusual for public officials to answer a few questions before moving on. Kashkari's impatient tone comes amid a growing desire for openness about how government agencies, including the Treasury, are handling billions of taxpayer dollars being used to prop up Wall Street.

1. However, he is a big, big fan of the public's money...
as long as he doesn't have to answer for what he does with it. :grr:

Oh, and the "one-off" event with AIG is the third thus far, by my count. :argh:

3. I'm willing to bet that he carefully cultivated that look, right down to the glare and scowl.

4. I want to know
What is going on? Who cares to answer my question? Not Kashkari. Not until we get some transparency, then he will care.

Transparency is a weapon of terror? Something to think about. It is one of those precision weapons that strikes only the selected target. Nobody else has to worry. Those that have cause to be terrorized should be.

A new doctrine to employ terror?

Transparency will answer the question that Kashkari will not.

Those afraid of what transparency reveals have much to fear.

Soon we will hear "transparency is not a suicide pact, lets not destroy ourselves with it" from those that fear it.

7. He told bank chiefs they could be casual around the restrictions of executive pay.
WTF can we expect from a former Goldman Sachs employee and Paulson colleague.

8. The term 'czar' needs to be dropped
It implies great omnipotent power when in reality those to which this archaic title is commonly attached are really just public servants, and we should never let them forget that they serve the will of the American people. WE are the masters.
