Who is the biggest threat to American progress?
My opinion. Nothing more.
I vote for James Dobson. Also-rans include Sun Yung Moon, the entire group at AEI, Steven Baldwin, Grover Norquist, Newt Gingrich, Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh, Antonin Scalia, and Bill Donohue.

4. Council for National Policy
They're the ultra secretive organization composed of loons like Dobson, LaHaye, Norquist, and a host of other religious right wackos and antigovernment true believers that managed to hang Palin around McCain's neck like a rotting albatross. Moon might or might not be associated with them, but I strongly suspect he either is or has been in the past.

BTW, has anyone seen him since last April? Did the old buzzard finally kick the bucket?

5. Simply due to the sheer numbers of people it reaches, News Corp
and Rupert is the most counterproductive element to progress in this country. Ted Turner was right, he really is the most dangerous man in the world. When information is controlled to include nuanced messages of hatred, it borders on fascism, especially on the scope of the tens of millions News Corp reaches daily.

6. Ignorance and engrained habits like SUV buying. Old habits and igorance can bring down empires.
And it has in the past. People have to accept the sober reality that things change, and so much the way we live, but you cannot change if you exist in an environment that fosters ignorance and fear. That way lays tyranny.

15. I blame a lot of our Nations problems on
the MSM and hate radio. They aren't covering news, they are making news. They spew lies, hate and their owners agenda. They manipulate, soundbite and express their own "opinions" and the sheeple suck it all in. They promote whatever "talking points" their given, 24/7. There are few true journalists left and they have a hard time being heard. To me, MSM has a much larger impact then anything else, as that, sadly, is where most of Americans get their "news". I think the crowds at the rethug rallies not only "parroted" what they heard at them, but also what Faux news, rush, etc had also been drilling in their heads. McPalin was right about one thing, "drill, baby, drill". This statement not only applied to oil, but to the minds of all Americans who listened.
