I never heard of the name "Saxby" before.
Does anyone know another Saxby?

Is it an out of favor old name?

Is it in the same category as Trig, Bristol, Moon Unit, and Dweezil?

And name of the Old South like Beauregard or Chauncey?

13. Really? I thought it was an obscure Wampanoag word for "asshole."
Still, it's a family surname somewhere in his genaeology, somebody his family were proud enough to stick him with that kind of silly name.

I call him "Sackless."

10. Or Sherrod. Or Steny. Or Rahm.
Is there a point to any of this?

12. Both my brother and my father had middle names of
Orrin.

I was fortunate to not be saddled with such.

3. I've never heard of it before Chambliss reared his ugly head.
The name reminds me of Zaxby's chicken restaurant chain. What is it with GOPers having funny first names? Rush Limbaugh is another that comes to mind. Who in their right mind names their kid RUSH?

5. my guess is that its a family name
Saxby is not that uncommon a surname. Its Chambliss' middle name. His first name is clarence, but like Bill Nelson, who also has the first name "clarence", he goes by his middle name. So does Kent Conrad, by the way -- his first name is Gaylord.

Probably some others on the hill that go by their middle names. I have friends that do the same thing.

11. There are 3 hamlets/villages in England called 'Saxby'
I'd guess it means "farmstead of Saxons" ('-by' is a Danish ending meaning farmstead, so they were probably places where some Saxons were living with mainly Danes in the area). And the surname probably came from someone who came from one of the places.

14. In the South, there's a habit...
...of using last names -- specifically mother's maiden names -- as middle names of the next generation. This is sometimes carried on for generations and generations. I had a fair number of students at Chapel Hill whose ties to the school went back to the 1800's who had three last names. Last name, first name prinouts looked pretty strange.

15. My son's baseball coach 12 years ago had a son named
Trig. And there was a Bristol as well on the team. I do not recall knowing any Moon Units or Dweezil's however.
