Prop 8 question
I'm not in California so I haven't been able to read this prop. Is it possible that the wording was
such that people voted the opposite way from their real feelings?

1. I've seen some posts here that suggest that as a possibility.
They thought Yes meant pro-rights. :(

3. Well this was the wording
"Changes the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California"

sounds pretty straightforward to me

4. oh yuck, it does sound pretty straightforward
I lived in Calif. for 50 years and I still don't get this outcome. Something isn't kosher here.

5. Yes
unless an awful lot of people do not know the definition of "eliminates"

7. It could have been misunderstood with that wording.

I think most people who go to vote don't pay close attention to more than the major candidates on the ballot unless they're politically active locally.

It could have been misunderstood -- ie, that the "elimination of the right to marry" was what was being changed. I do think the wording is confusing. Almost as confusing as this post.

And I hear there was a lot of intentional misunderstanding promoted. I bet if they had a re-vote it would pass.
