Gerson: Retain Robert Gates; 'avoid early culture war battles' & 'a wounded congressional minority'
...It makes sense to appoint respected and reassuring leaders to key economic and security posts (the retention of Defense Secretary Robert Gates would be both a bipartisan signal and a reward for excellence). And it makes sense to avoid early culture war battles that could ignite a wounded congressional minority, provoke dejected conservatives into a backlash and undermine the prospect of bipartisan achievement....http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/11/AR2008111102259.html

2. Yes, if Obama ever decides to lie the country into a ruinous war,
then he should definitely turn to Gerson for advice.

Otherwise, Gerson is irrelevant.

3. What in the Holy Hell are these people smokin'
If Dems should have learned anything over the last twenty years it is that the GOP IS NOT NOW going to start playing fair in a spirit of bipartisanship. Clinton tried it and they impeached him. Is there any doubt that the gargantuan right wing propaganda apparatus is already gearing up to relentlessly attack Obama?

Gerson's advice reminds me of the fable about the scorpion and the frog. The scorpion stings becuase it is his nature. The GOP will mindlessly attack becuase it is their nature and all they have.

The Dems and Obama should only offer that if they are attacked the same way Clinton was, all bets are off and there will be a tsunami of investigations into the crimes of the Bush era. PERIOD!

7. With the utmost sincerity...
...I would like to suggest that Obama take ALL of the Republican mutants appointed by Bush and stick them up Gerson's rectum as far as his arm can reach, and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

Wesley Clark for SoD!
