Just got this from a friend...
...I just got a call from XXXX. He's been in Indonesia since the election. He said
that people keep coming up to him and shaking his hand and thanking him as if he
personally ensured Obama a victory. They are excited and said that Obama is the
answer to defeat terrorism since his presence makes it much harder for them to
recruit.

Sell your stock in the Canadian flag companies.

Other interesting thing he mentioned. Was watching some professor talk about
Obama. He said that the European countries like to bash America and talk about
how conservative we are, but he said he can't think of any free country that
ever elected as their leader someone from the minority. Very good point.
I can't think of an exception either and would be shocked to see it happen any
time soon.

2. I think the U.S. has done something great in the world by electing Obama
and despite that "look what we did" thing, he was in fact far and away the more capable and qualified of the 2 candidates.

6. There has to be a semblance of order there before we leave.
More US presence does not mean more military aggressive action. It may well be, that the extra US support will strive to monitor and divert the poppy production and reduce the Taliban profits. The Afghan society has been dealing with occupation and war for generations and they need to be able to develop a more stable and yet inherently independent state.

The influence that we will wield in cooperative action with perhaps and enhanced coalition will need to instill a cultural awareness in an oppressively Taliban controlled country.

Like all Bush messes, especially international messes, the ground work must be rebuilt and that takes
more support. Our military is designed to supply the security and stability to accomplish these tasks.

4. Not to dampen your enthusiasm, but accurately speaking,
it is not quite true that there have not been minority heads of state of other democracies. In India, for instance, there have been 4 Muslim Presidents (nominated by the Prime Minister and usually ratified by the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the legislature). There have been 2 Sikh Prime Ministers and 1 Sikh President...

5. There have been others...
Japanese-Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, for example.

8. My sister lives in London and she keeps being told by friends
and co-workers how they all had tears in their eyes when Obama was elected. Others tell her stories of relatives and friends in other parts of the world that they cried with joy when he won. It is definitely a new world attitude.

More stories from around the world keep being shared. It is absolutely fabulous.
