Can a caucus unable to dechair lieberman fight for anything?
My disgust for our Senate democrats, held in abeyance for the late campaign season, has been renewed. Are they really going to let Lieberman hold his chair, complete with its charter to conduct executive branch investigations? Are they going to give this disloyal bushite traitor the power to derail and distract the Obama administration?

If they are this weak and clueless, how are they going to manage to fight back against the obstructionist onslaught that their 'colleagues' across the aisle are busily preparing to engage in?

Perhaps I am being premature and our Caucus will do the right thing and dechair Lieberman. I really hope that is the case.

1. The question is whether or not Lieberman plans on seeking another term
If he's not planning on running again then he has a lot of leverage over the party because he can obstruct all he wants without political consequences. If he is planning on running for re-election then this was poorly handled. Reid could've taken away Lieberman's charimanship and dared him to caucus with the GOP and vote with them. Obama won Connecticut with over 60% of the vote and Lieberman would be toast in the next election if he had to run as a Republican.

2. I share your disgust, endarkenment. Huffington Post says OBAMA is the one allowing him
to keep his chairmanship of Homeland Security. That is seriously screwed. Lieberman WILL investigate our new President once he's in office. Count on it. And he will continue his old charade as chairman--no investigations of abuses, no oversight of contracts.

I have pledged to give our President-elect the benefit of the doubt on his selection of his cabinet and his key positions, but it's getting harder and harder to hold to my pledge as he seems to be rehiring the same old Beltway Cronies we were hoping would be out.

This Lieberman thing has to be bowing to the ultra-right Jewish lobby. I think Obama is afraid of pissing them off.

Just my $.02.

3. I Still Haven't Seen The Word Chairmanship
I've heard caucus. But I haven't heard Obama say he wanted Traitor Joe to remain in charge of Homeland Security. There was a balloon floated the other day of giving Joe some minor chairmanship so he could keep his large staff...I'm sure a major sticking point.

Personally I like watching Joementum hang. What's the rush? The Senate doesn't vote on committee assignments until January and there's no need to let this slimebag know his fate any sooner.

In the end, the decision is to be made by the 57 or 58 or 59 or 60 Democrats who will be seated in January...thus they need to hear from us about not letting this traitor anywhere near party leadership. I'll gladly take his vote when he offers it, but he's worthless as there are sure to be repugnicans who will cross over. His vote means nothing. His grandstanding should be ignored...let him hang!

4. I read about Obama saying he not only wanted Lieberman in the caucus but also staying

on as HS chairman earlier this afternoon on the HuffPo. I just went back to get the link for you and it's disappeared. So, I don't know if it was an unsubstantiated claim/rumor or it got pushed back by other news.

Maybe someone else can help here.

Never mind. I found it. It was Jane Hamsher posting from another source. Here it is
