Tony Perkins.

EQUAL RIGHTS SHOULD NOT BE UP FOR VOTE, Dickhead.

1. I figured just by reading the subject that it was going to be Tony Perkins.
He is the WORST.

2. Close buddy of David Duke.
And just as bigoted. Unlike Duke, he got on the religious tip when he saw there was real money there.

7. Because people (most people at least) no longer accept religion as an excuse for blatant racism.
I mean, when's the last time you saw some Christian Identity kook as a legitimate TV guest? A Tony Perkins or a James Dobson, on the other hand, can trash gays with impunity and still be considered "respectable."

8. This crap pisses me off more and more - I have no personal stake in it, but it is SO frustrating.
I got some clown at work who thinks the same thing about marriage - "between a man and a woman" - he isn't religous, doesn't even know why - he just thinks so.

I just don't get it.

3. He's president of the Family Research Council...
A hate group, period.

CNN seems to be their biggest booster and have been for at least a decade. I've written them repeatedly over the years protesting the fact that on every single gay issue they trot out someone from the FRC to comment. I equated it to having a Klan member comment on African-American issues or a skinhead giving his opinion on Jewish issues. It's so objectionable and offensive, as a gay person, to have CNN throw FRC in my face constantly. It's the biggest reason I stopped watching CNN altogether.

Every time CNN gives FRC a platform they probably get people signing up on their site and donating - and FRC gave lots of money to the Yes on 8 campaign. Nice of CNN to constantly promote them, eh?

9. I was watching to try to see some coverage of the NYC protest, and this debate came on.
I thought Dan(?) did a great job in supporting equal marriage rights.

16. I no longer watch tv news
except for the weather, they give the viewpoint of Scrooge factory owners, not those who work for a wage, & I frankly got tired of their trickery & games. I was smart enough to recognize it right away & I don't need them, I have the internet for the news-it's like radio was in the 1930s, when all the newspapers gave the Rich Man's Point-of-View.

5. Head of the "Family Research Council"
just another one of those right-wing hate organizations in the name of religion like Focus on the Family or the American Family Association.

6. did you see the fucker try to deny that young people supported same sex marraige
Anderson Cooper mentioned that younger people are strongly in support of same sex marriage and it's mostly older people opposed. he asked if he could be on the wrong side of history.

the fucker tried to deny this was true. he started spewing bs about how young people understand more than others.

wtf.

the other guy in support of gay rights said that California passed some anti gay thing in 2000 by 20 points and this time it was by 4 points. that support for same sex marriage is gaining rights. the fucker just said no and tried to spew shit again.

the guy said there are churches that do support and want to perform same sex marriage, what about their rights.

asshole perkins just lying and spewing his shit.

13. You mean they should NOT be tax exempt?
I agree...it's well past time they start getting taxed. They have millions of dollars to back things like prop 8 then they can pay their taxes.

"Welcome to DU"!!

14. Thanks for the welcome, and the correction! They should NOT be tax exempt!
Sorry. :dunce:

I think all churches SHOULD NOT be tax exempt, but I'm just pinpointing LDS today for what they pulled in California on Prop 8.

15. I agree
I think a sliding scale based on what they take in would be fare. That way the small churches don't get crushed, they have a right to exist like the big churches.
