Treason, sedition, just plain hate and freedom of speech
I have become increasingly disturbed by the articles I have read and keep reading about the things spewed about President-Elect Obama.
The nutball Cynthia Dunbar being one of the more serious ones. then you have children on a schoolbus chanting"Assisnate Obama" and that loon of a Georgia Congressman claiming some shit. Then there is Mrs. Moose STILL spouting off about Obama and Ayers. I seriously think some of these people are very close to crossing the line between freedom of speech and sedition if not treason.
I didn't like GWB worth a damn. I didn't post rifle pictures and wish someone would take care of it. I wanted those bastards impeached. I still want them tried at some point for crimes. I'm sure there were some people who went beyond the pale in regards to Bush, but I don't remember this level of invective. A lot of energy was put into changing the government through voting.
These people can't seem to wait and use the system set up to change government. They want to do things in one fell swoop through lethal means. If they don't like Obama and his policies, then by all means protest, voice opinions on that, and vote. However, in my mind when you start down this other road, you are now close to advocating overthrowing the US government or setting up that atmosphere. Someone should remind them that Obama is the PRESIDENT-ELECT chosen by the voters of this nation! He is a major part of the US government.

1. It is scary.
Especially with the history of violence we have in this country.

2. Sorry, but
I'm too fresh off of being called treasonous and seditious by the same assholes you're referring to, to turn right around and start doing it to them. Unless they are literally calling for Obama to be killed, they are protected under the 1st amendment, however stupid they may be. You can't really sit there and tell me that lefties have not been equating Bush to Hitler for 8 years, or calling him a murderer, wishing him ill, or blasting him for his associations. I know, because I was one of the people doing it, and I thought it was insane when right-wingers called criticism of Bush treason.

The fact is, if someone is calling for his assassination, then they are indeed guilty of a crime. But when you roll in that idiot Paul Broun for comparing him to Hitler--that's just stupid, NOT sedition.

3. I did say they were close to it.
I don't think that is treason. I am leery of calling it too. However, there are some people who are close to going over that edge if they haven't
crossed it. It would have to be big, bold and clear to me. These other peopleare stupid, but they make it much easier to move beyond the pale. Too may memories
in my head.

4. They *are* literally calling for that. And it needs to be stepped on hard.

I'm with the OP on this one. It's not a matter of the First Amendment. If we have to have a massive hiring of new Secret Service personnel in order to handle the investigation of these increased threats, then so be it.

I hate the phrase "zero tolerance," but that is what we must demand when it comes to threats against our President-Elect. Those kids on that school bus didn't come up with the phrase on their own. They heard it somewhere else first. And whoever said it needs to know that mere words can indeed have consequences, and the consequence of threatening the President-Elect must be prosecution. Every. Single. Time.
