2. Joseph Smith would not recognize the LDS Church today

If you read LDS history you would be amazed at what the Church has become. Joseph Smith stated that the Sins of Sodom and Gomorra were inhospitality. Joseph Smith ordained a black man to the priesthood. When Brigham Young took over is when all hate broke loose - he despised non-white people. As for the gay part - there were gay people in the Church hierarchy as recently as 60 years ago. (see: Joseph Fielding Smith Wikipedia) In the 60's things began to change, the LDS Church wanted mainstream approval and its then that the attacks on Gays and Lesbians started and its still happening.

The LDS Church will never be mainstream in America, but they will keep trying.
