One man and his friends had a vision.....A thank you thread.
They sat down one day and started a website many of us call home now.

Because of Skinner and his friends we now have a place to come together, vent, rally the troops, to learn, to teach others.

I just read his thread about the donation drive (not here much of late, so I just saw it a few minutes ago).

I often take it for granted that I can just click on my DU link and have this place here. I don't have to worry about the servers, connections, software, etc. I just click on a thread and I can read it, or I can click post and I can write what I feel.

DU has help me and others through these years of bush and crew. I have been helped by friends here emotionally and otherwise, a resource I would never have had had he not taken the time to create DU.

So I wanted to Thank Skinner and crew for DU - and to thank all of you for putting up with my many rants over the years. I have never had so much support in all my life and you have all helped me through some of the hardest times of my life.

You have no idea what DU has meant to me. I'll be back soon and spending more time here - I just thought I should at least tell you all thanks.

Your Friend,
TSS

1. I second your thanks to the folks who make DU possible...and that
does include you as well.

I look forward to your returning to the fold.

5. DU saved my sanity
I was honestly starting to wonder if all the things I'd been taught about my country were true, after all. It seemed as if everyone disagreed with the fundamentals about our government. Then, thanks to a Canadian friend, I found DU and I realized I was right and there was some major craziness going on.

6. I wish I were as rich in $$$ as I am in friends
I've been on DU since at least summer of 2001, maybe a bit earlier. I know I was here before 9/11.

Since then, I've joined or posted or lurked on a lot of other sites, but they've always lost their appeal. Either the company wasn't congenial or the site was too cumbersome or . . . something.

DU is where I come. Along with my email, it's the site that's ALWAYS open on my computer and I'm on my computer just about all day. I get my news and my inspiration and my courage and my encouragement here.

Like many others, I've been through a lot in the past eight years. I don't post much about my personal situation, but I've lost my husband, my dad, changed my residence, watched my financial future get bleaker and bleaker. I lost a dearly beloved dog and added four new ones. I've gained a son-in-law and two grandsons. Oh, yeah, and picked up an (in)significant other along the way. ;-)

Someone was kind enough to donate in my name some months ago; I really didn't earn that star and the privileges that come with it, but I have appreciated it enormously.

If I were as rich in my pocket as I am on my monitor, DU could retire its grovelbot forever. Sadly, I'm not. And as an artist who gets her fair share of Ooohs and Aaaahs that don't put fread on the table or pay the light bill, I know that words of appreciation are nice but not nice enough. However, it's all I have to "donate" at this time.

Maybe in the spring, maybe things will look better then, and I'll be more than happy to drop a few bucks in the kitty.

Thank you, TSS for starting this thread.

And thank you, Skinner, for being there for all of us, all the time.

And thank you, all you DUers, for being there, too.

Sincerely,

The evil DUer

Tansy Gold
