I've been on DU since at least summer of 2001, maybe a bit earlier. I know I was here before 9/11.
Since then, I've joined or posted or lurked on a lot of other sites, but they've always lost their appeal. Either the company wasn't congenial or the site was too cumbersome or . . . something.
DU is where I come. Along with my email, it's the site that's ALWAYS open on my computer and I'm on my computer just about all day. I get my news and my inspiration and my courage and my encouragement here.
Like many others, I've been through a lot in the past eight years. I don't post much about my personal situation, but I've lost my husband, my dad, changed my residence, watched my financial future get bleaker and bleaker. I lost a dearly beloved dog and added four new ones. I've gained a son-in-law and two grandsons. Oh, yeah, and picked up an (in)significant other along the way. ;-)
Someone was kind enough to donate in my name some months ago; I really didn't earn that star and the privileges that come with it, but I have appreciated it enormously.
If I were as rich in my pocket as I am on my monitor, DU could retire its grovelbot forever. Sadly, I'm not. And as an artist who gets her fair share of Ooohs and Aaaahs that don't put fread on the table or pay the light bill, I know that words of appreciation are nice but not nice enough. However, it's all I have to "donate" at this time.
Maybe in the spring, maybe things will look better then, and I'll be more than happy to drop a few bucks in the kitty.
Thank you, TSS for starting this thread.
And thank you, Skinner, for being there for all of us, all the time.
And thank you, all you DUers, for being there, too.
Sincerely,
The evil DUer
