Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 05:49 PM by DeadElephant_ORG
Thank GOD for Media Matters. you can join their "Radio-Active" campaign here:

http://mediamatters.org/reports/radio/?src=radio-4

Check these quotes they have provided of local hate-hosts...

Bill Cunningham
"Obama wants to gas the Jews."

Chris Baker
"I don't think homeless people should vote"; "I'm not that excited about women voting."

Quinn & Rose
"Gay sex produces AIDS."

Lee Rodgers
"With that screechy, fingernails-on-the-blackboard voice of hers, it is impossible for Hillary Clinton to deliver a great speech"

Mark Belling
"When you think of Hillary Clinton what do you think -- what word comes to mind? Yes, can I use that word here? All right, it's who bitches the most."

Neal Boortz
"Let's ask Obama how many prayer rugs he has."

Jon Caldara
On Hillary Clinton's performance in a debate: "This -- was it fair to say this woman got bitch-slapped tonight?"

Dan Caplis
On photo of Obama in African attire: "the kind of garb you often see Osama bin Laden in"

Mark Levin
"For now on, it's the National Organization of Really Ugly Women"

G. Gordon Liddy
"Obama is counting on the urban elites and the welfare class to win the state for him. But he's putting on a show for the rest of Pennsylvania."

"Gunny" Bob Newman
On Obama: "You're a far-left, terrorist-hugging politician, not the bad-boy gangsta you want people to believe you are."

Michael Savage
"I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out."

1. Someone needs to stop the lies...
I'm not sure how this can go with radio. All you'd have to do is switch your service to "entertainment" and you can say anything you want... cuz it's all a joke, ya know.

3. Umm, Media Matters has been doing this for a while now.
It's just that now everyone is FINIALLY paying attention to them. Which has alot of hate talkers worred big-time (and have begun attacking them for it).

6. Al Franken used to have them on his AAR show back in 04. They have been around a while.
It would be great if they got more attention and some legal steps were taken on the stuff they point out...

7. This is different: a direct-action campaign in which you may participate.
I've been a huge fan of Media Matters for years. They're an excellent resource for tracking Right-wing media. But they've not done direct action campaigns.

Perhaps you never heard of Air America Radio, www.airamericaradio.com

Or AZ Most Progressive Talk Radio!! http://www.1480kphx.com

and many others... Pacific Radio (CA) come to mind.

There are many others to choose from... have at it.

8. I track a couple dozen radio sources - far left, and far right - daily
Finding alternatives to Right-wing hate radio is easy - particularly for those who receive podcasts. That is NOT what this is about. This is about taking direct action to force stations to drop their hate-hosts.

5. You know, it's only a matter of time before these right wing hand-jobs whip someone into a frenzy...
And they head for a place locked and loaded where "liberals and gays" gather... like, I don't know... let's say like a Universal Unitarian church where everyone is welcome and starts to blow people away.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Knoxville, anyone?

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate these people?

15. I don't see anything objectionable about Lee Rodgers' comment there
Lee Rodgers
"With that screechy, fingernails-on-the-blackboard voice of hers, it is impossible for Hillary Clinton to deliver a great speech"

1) Wouldn't it be impossible(or at least very difficult) to deliver a great speech with a screechy, fingernails-on-the-blackboard voice?
2) Then the only question is, do you think Hillary has such a voice?

It's not hate speech to say such a thing. It's a matter of opinion, even if the most likely way to arrive at that opinion is through partisan dislike of the woman. It's not like he's going to infect other people with his view of her voice; most everyone had already heard it or can hear it easily.

Or are you(they) saying that this is anti-women? That's a little stronger but still shaky I think.

16. one could argue the same about ALL these statements. "I don't think homeless people should vote" is
just an opinion. There is a big problem in DEFINING what is, and what is not, "hate talk".

I propose the following definition:
Statements that attempt to disqualify certain classes of citizens from participation in democracy are hateful and anti-American.

Would ANY male politician ever be described as "screechy"? Lee Rogers is denigrating Hillary Clinton's right to serve on account of a quality that she shares with ALL women: a voice that is naturally higher-pitched than men.

21. DU Lawyers: Couldn't Obama have Bill Cunningham charged with slander for that remark?
That is DISGUSTING.

What are the criteria for slander, anyway?
