Who is Gerald Celente? why does he predict economic Doomsday?

My son called me absolutely freaking out because he read an article by this guy.
He predicts that the dollar value will fall by 90%, that there will be riots in the streets, that a depression is coming that will be the worst imaginable by next year. That the US will go down in flames, basically.

It took me an hour to calm my son down, and assure him that, no matter what, he will be safe with family .

1. Much of Celente's 'trend forecasting' has been accurate, but I think he's

over-the-top doom and gloom regarding our financial situation and future.

Like any subject, you can listen to someone present the pro and it makes sense and you agree, then present the con and THAT makes sense, too, and you agree.

It's just my personal opinion that Celente has gone off the deep end on this particular subject, he's become obsessed.

3. You know how Lou Dobbs has lost all rational thinking ability when it comes

to immigration? How he can only see and focus on the worst possible scenario? That's what Celente reminds me of -- he's looking so far down the hole, he can't see other options and possibilities. It's like he can't be objective at this point.

4. well i found a few websites that think hes a nut

and promptly called my son to assure him not to believe everything he reads without some critical thinking.
