Kick this if you want a user name amnesty from Skinner like in 2004 |
|
if you weren't around in 2004, the admins allowed a username amnesty so you could change your user name but not lose your post count or join date.
I need one, anybody else?

As for me, it was stupid yesterday, it's stupid today, and it'll be stupid tomorrow. Besides, I'm thinking of marketing hot sauce in the future ("Buns_of_Fire Hot Sauce -- If you thought it burned going in, wait till you experience it coming out!").
(If that doesn't work, I'm thinking of copywriting the letter "E".)

You can look at what I named my journal to see what I was thinking when I chose my current name during the '04 name amnesty. Unfortunately, many DUers have told me they thought it was a reference to *ahem* a "women's time of month."
That's not what I meant at all!!! ;(
I have a much better name picked out this time. :) If I get the chance... Please, Skinner!

When I chose this name, it was merely a reflection of my default state of mind when faced with a "choose a username" dialogue. But everyone thinks I'm a writer when they first see the name, so it's a little misleading.

45. Question ~ I am goclark now |
|
so how will people that have been here know who I am with the new name?
Is there a transition period? Example: goclark > gobosista
I think I want to be gobosista
I was for CLARK in 04 and CLARK is part of my name but I want to also let people know I'm a female.
So many refer to me as a Male and I don't blame them with the name goclark.
Thanks for raising the issue because I do want to be:
gobosista :bounce:

trust me, I've been feeling self conscious about using those initials after seeing how freepers and trolls seemed to take great joy in using BO as a disrespectful slur. After seeing all that, I've wanted to change it.

74. Not sure about the logistics involved, but perhaps this could be a one-time yearly option for |
|
anyone donating during a fund drive, who has also given an annual donation - but not as a freebie, and limited to once a year/having a user name for at least a year.
A win-win situation for the site and it's users. I think it would be a reasonable incentive, especially since the donation requirements for this site are so flexible (no minimum amount) considering how valuable it is.
Just a thought or two.

I need it badly. Wish I hadn't chosen the nickname of the two red states where I have lived as my user name. At least Indiana finally went blue, but I'm really ready to lose the Sooner part.
I'd give an extra donation for user name amnesty.

(that's the advantage of using my own name -- it doesn't get outdated), but I certainly support the idea for those who want a new name. I think, though, that sig lines or something should show what the old name was so people know who they're talking to.

i've been dying to change that forever.

but because I don't know what I was thinking when i chose Laurab - my name isn't even Laura, it's Lori, and I THINK back then, I just chose the first name that came to mind, as I didn't want to use my actual name - it never even hit me until after that it was the "first lady's" name, but I'd love to get rid of it!

You poor thing. Even if the name change is just for you I will say yes.
Most people think I am a male because of my name... I don't care really but the idea is wearing thin since I picked it because I felt shipwrecked by Bush Co. when I selected it.
So I give it two thumbs up!:thumbsup:

When I first joined I was paranoid or something, and didn't want anyone in the "real world" to know it was me. Now, first of all, I don't care, and second of all, Lori would have been just as good, no one would have known or even cared. I was new to caring about politics, and something about the "underground" must have scared me. But, still I can't believe i didn't catch it.
I'm quite sure people thought I was a freeper for a long time - in fact, I would have, too, but no one ever said a word, thankfully! :)

If I've figured out that someone under a certain name is someone I want to ignore, would this let them change their name and I'd have to figure it out all over again?
I don't actually have anyone officially set to "ignore" -- so I can see everyone's posts -- but there are a few whose posts I've learned to take with a grain of salt, etc.

I was originally gore-is-my-prez when Al Gore really won in 2000 and was the TRUE President. I then changed it to Kerry-is-my-prez when Kerry really won in 2004 and was the TRUE President.
The name is now almost a slap in the face to the new President.....

Not election related, but I had a bad knock on the head just before I started posting here. I've always wanted to apologize for being kinda nuts. And to thank you all for being there while I learned to write again.
When I first started here, even typing letters in the right order was hard, and temporal lobe injuries can make a person irrationally angry. (not that the political situation helped.)I have often wished I could start over, now that I am feeling better.

I kinda wish we could also have an amnesty for tombstoned "veterans" of the primary warz, but that's probably right out of the question. There are a few posters I miss, although I don't disagree with the decisions made by DU mods and admins, I do wish there were a way to give 'em a "second chance".

167. When I came to DU back in '01, I was a novice at message boards, etc. |
|
So I wasn't exactly artful in my selection of screen names (that's part of an old e-mail addy, obviously).
Everybody calls me Bake, and if Skinner will allow it, that's what I'll change it to (I checked, and that name isn't taken, so I've hereby got dibs on it!).

|
something religious, when it stands for anyone who has been martyred for their belief/cause/characteristic - like MLK Jr., Matt Shepard, and yes, those killed for their religious beliefs.
(the user name has been an ongoing cause of judgment on DU since I've been on here - I've seen dozens of times and surely missed hundreds of times where people smart-off about someone's name when they've run out of anything useful to say)
But I agree, PLEASE Skinner, give us name amnesty.

"HypnoToad" was a homage, and not a reflection of any facet pertinent to my personality.
But for obvious reasons, that's not the same as your reason for such an amnesty and yours is the logical reasoning for it in the first place. :)

The rape and pillage of the US treasury by thieving villains--not so much.
Personally, I have so much rage inside me about that whole mess that I'm afraid I may have a heart attack or something. Yeah: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I haven't seen any of the much smarter and better informed people than me come up with something I can do about it, nor anything anyone else, including the Congress, can (or will?) do. So, I'm trying not to think about it. For my health's sake.

273. I felt the need back when I was calling * a "jug eared prick" here |
|
and it was showing up in google. With * a lame duck, I am less concerned now, but have the name "Orange Julius LaRosa" selected because Tangerine LaBamba says it makes her hot.

277. yay for hiding your identity and covering up |
|
anything youve ever said before!
i dunno, i just dont believe in a fresh start on a political website.
people should have thought more heavily about their names if they didnt like them.
i dunno y everyone should be allowed to become annonymous again when theyve willingly voiced opinions that others may or may not have liked.
personally, id like to know who im talking to.

289. How do we tell the old person with the new name? |
|
Is there a cross reference page or something? I mean, what happens to all the ignored posters? There's a possibility of becoming friends with someone that I use to dislike. Wouldn't want that to happen, would we?

294. but that was only temporary |
|
since the forum has grown bigger, it is harder to keep track of people. either a list or a line in the profile with the old name would be handy.

301. kick...some of us have "old and worn out names" and it might be a good thing.. |
|
Just saying. "Old DU" is dead..some of us have morphed since then and folks put us on "Ignore Lists" for one reason or the other. But, eight years after wishing for Gore Restoration and, eight years after when we joined DU and picked crazy names being (at that time NEWBIES to the internet) leads some of us to REALLY want to have a new CLOAK or CLOTHES to post on this site.
Time have changed. Can't WE who want a CHANGE...Change, TOO?
