falsely labeled prop 8 "blacklist makes national news, like cockroaches scurry for the dark
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 10:22 AM by msongs
the list of people who gave money to yes on prop 8 is now making the top of the hour network news on CBS news here in LA.

while it is merely a list of names from public record, people who's names are on that list are leveling charges of being blacklisted and are cranking out the usual swill attempting to deny what they have actually done.

it's funny to hear them say things like democracy rules to pass prop 8 but listing donor names is an "invasion of privacy" and undemocratic.

one sorry man equated it to the mccarthy era and said he would never have dontated to yes on 8 if he knew his name would be deliberately spread about by people whose only failing is they can read public documents posted on the internet.

once again comes the charge that the will of the majority is paramount and the pesky glbts should STFU and go back in their closets without a whimper because....well just because.

BTW the cbs news guy also mentioned the extortion racket being run against people who dontated to NO on prop 8, the REAL extortion and blacklist racket.

Once again the oppressors are labeling themselves as the victims.

9. Really?
What is a person who gives money for a ballot proposal whose only purpose is to take away a right from someone else? I saw that someone in Michigan gave $200,000 in support of this ballot proposal. What do you call someone who gives that much money when our economy is so bad (particularly in Michigan) on a ballot proposal to take away people's rights IN ANOTHER STATE.

Here's a hint. 5 letters, starts with the letter "B".

10. Yes, they are.
The highest court in the state of California ruled that banning gay and lesbian couples from marrying is unconstitutional. Some people didn't respect that, so they put an initative on the ballot to override that judicial decision. Sounds like bigotry to me.

15. How so?
I'm not trying to be snarky, but I'd honestly like to know how this is not bigotry. Seems to me to be the classic definition of bigotry. If you're willing to make that charge, you should be able to back it up.

You just don't want certain folks to have "special rights".

doesn't mean that they agree with it now,in this context.

That was then. This is now. It's ok - in fact, essential - to call them bigots in this thread but not those other threads.

7. If they are so much in favor of removing civil rights. . .
and claim their vote was "for the children" or to "save traditional marriage," then why would they care that their names and donations are being made public? After all, the "Yes" on 8 people claimed THEY were the righteous ones, and they weren't attempting to persecute or discriminate against anyone by advocating the removal of someone else's constitutional rights. So if they REALLY believed that is the case, then why are they whining about having their donations made public?

Seems to me that they knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they made that donation - they just didn't want anyone else to know what a sorry cockroach of a bigot they are.

11. Too bad for them
that political donations are public records. Donate and you're name is already out there. If someone wants to publicize the list of donors, there it is. Poor babies don't want their names to get out there...they shouldn't donate. It's that simple.

The anti-glbt people do this all the time for their boycotts and the like. Hypocrites!

I believe that's the way to paraphrase their complaint, yes?

If they wanted anonymity, they should have just stuck with voting yes. Voting is private, donations are not. Suck it up, bigots.

20. This isn't a blacklist
A blacklist is a secret list concocted by the powerful to deny advancement to certain individuals. By its very nature, a blacklist may be known about, but its contents aren't generally aired. People who are on the list are often not aware that they've been marked for discriminatory treatment, and if they are aware, may not have an opportunity to explain or defend themselves.

In this case, the contents of the list are a matter of public record. The people on the list got there through their own, specific, voluntary action, and the people taking action based on the list are hardly powerful. In fact, they are a minority of a minority who think those in that minority of a minority deserve the same rights and benefits enjoyed by the majority as a matter of course, simply by virtue of their humanity.

Not only are the whiners on this list cowards, they're particularly gutless cowards.

30. What goes around comes around. These people supported taking others' rights away.
This is not an abstract issue.

Marriage in California was made legal for gay folks last spring, and 18,000 couples got married since then. Supporters of Proposition 8 took that right away. Now they're surprised that people are so disgusted they've chosen not to patronize their businesses?

If I contributed money to take a minority group's rights away, I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of people were disgusted by my actions and ostracized me as a result. People seem to think that they can treat gay people like dirt and get away with it.
