Dept. of Oh: Mark Foley waited until after kids hit puberty to hit on them

In his first interviews since the scandal that ended his political career two years ago, former Rep. Mark Foley acknowledged his behavior was "inappropriate" but did not explain why he sent sexually charged e-mail and text messages to high school students serving as congressional pages. He spoke with the AP and West Palm Beach's WPTV (though not the "Today Show," as had been reported earlier), and took umbrage with his being labelled a pedophile.

From AP: "You know, you hear the term 'pedophile.' That is prepubescent," Foley said, noting a "huge difference" from lurid chats with teens on the brink of adulthood.
Well. Technically he's correct -- he was flirting with teenage males, not children, making him a pederast and not a pedophile. He's far from alone, if the success of the "Girls Gone Wild" franchise signifies anything. And yet.

Foley's defensiveness seems to have mightily angered his AP interviewer, Brian Skoloff, who fumed that the former congressman "remains somewhat unwilling to accept full public scorn."

He seemed rather dismissive of the whole thing, to me. He admitted that he'd made horrible mistakes in terms of his -career-, and that what he'd done had ruined a lifetime of work. When it came to the kids, though, his argument was along the lines of, "Lets remember that they were only a few months from eighteen."
