1. My husband was laid-off Election day.

After 14 years on the job, no warnings. We were shocked. Tuesday the 4th was a bitter-sweet day for us.

10. I and some of my friends have been laid off

I got hired back by the company that laid me off (it cost them too much to outsource my responsibilities, which I knew would happen), and some of my friends got laid off during the last two weeks. I'm thinking about finding something somewhere else.

Edit: left out the second "off," which changed the meaning of the sentence completely. :blush:
