I had my first gun nut freeptard encounter today...
And yes, I took a shower afterwards.
I repair guitars and stringed instruments occasionally for a local store. I was working on rush job when a guy walks in and starts talking to the owner of the store. Talk turned to business and the guy starts blathering about "gun and ammunition sales are through the roof because that "n****r is in the Whitehouse and that means all of our guns are going to be taken and we cant buy ammo and the taxes are going up!"

After picking my jaw up off the floor...
I started laughing, like rolling around on the floor laughing, shouting, "OMG! OH NOES!! OH SHIT!!!11!!
I seriously thought it was funny.
Then he started in on me..."n****r lover, did you vote for him?"

I did the 10 yard dash in 0.3 seconds...
Anyway, he is gonna kill me with all his guns and stuff, he promised.

He left the store, I probably wont be doing any work there again.

Two hours later I get a phone call from the cops.
Wanted my side of the story.
They left a voicemail.
I wont call them back.

I find it funny that someone can threaten me with a gun one minute and then call the cops the next.
I never threatened him except with facts and perhaps some anger.

I am sick of the hate after all.

Anyway, just a note.
They are out there.

1. if he needs his gun, he's a coward
he had his chance face to face with you. He wouldn't only be a coward, but he'd be a bit mentally unbalanced to begin with. Nice combo...

good luck

35. I doubt the guy would have the guts even with a gun
He'd need some of his white-clad friends to put some steel in his spine.

3. Its like the end of the world to these people.....
"OMG Obama is prez, quick build the ark or get in the bomb shelter, stock up on food get plenty of guns and ammo before they are taken away, god will pull us through this!"

I wonder what BS they will come up with when they see that Obama has not taxed them a dime but in fact lowered their taxes, and all there guns are still there. They are nuts, but what can you expect from repukes nowadays?

If you end up dead, at least that fact will be on record.

9. btw, good idea about not talking to the cops
He has already spoken to them first and set the expectations.

Now the cops just need you to say something to incriminate yourself. thats really the only reason why they want your side.

11. How ddid the store owner react? Maybe he called the cops since you were threatened
I'm with the others - call the cops back and let them know you were threatened with violence. If all you did was laugh and run away, there is nothing you need to worry about, IMO. Of course, I know nothing about the community where you live, the relationship of the gun nut to the local police or any other factors that might cause you problems.

14. I laughed and went back to the guitar
I was working on, finished and then left the store.
I wont call the cops because, like noted above, silence is better.
I dont think John (the owner) would call them, he saw and heard everything (I thank goodness there was no one else in the store).

They are out there and boy are they mad.
With this guy, I swear it sounded like a speech he had given a hundred times before, just a verbal barrage of talking points and lies...and lots of hate.
Big hate.
It was like reading FR but with spittle flying every where.
Yuck.
But like I said, I did shower when I got home.

Just makes me sad a little, that there are people out there like that.

16. Well...
I wanted to be closer to him when he called me that name again.
People will say the darndest things when you are not standing next to them.
I did not approach him with intent nor malice nor even a glare.
Just a simple yet very assured leap.
I am not one of those screaming yelling fighter types, I figure if someone is to that point, its better to throw the first punch.
But that would take a lot for me to do.
And remeber, I was still more or less laughing til that namecalling.
What an ugly name.

13. "Anyway, he is gonna kill me with all his guns and stuff, he promised." You should call the police
and explain that threat and if he exposed a firearm the charge could be serious.

15. Since the cops called you, they know your name and phone #..
Which means the store owner either told the cops directly who you are or told the freeper who then told the cops.

You should talk to the store owner and find out what happened after you left.

18. You are correct not to return the call from the cops. But since the
cops contacted you, you contact a lawyer. Let the lawyer talk to the cops. You are in a very dangerous situation. Anything you say can (will) be taken out of context and used against you.

19. I have to fight back the urge to kill one of those
assholes every day. I am in SE Ohio and I swear I have heard someone mouth off about that n----- every day. Just a couple days ago I'm in line at the Convenient Market behind a black lady who works her butt off every day delivering papers and doing housework to raise her kids. This guy in the other line starts mouthing off for some reason about how the people who voted for that n---- are going to be crying when he gets done f-----g this country up and goes stomping out the door. I could see the tears running down the lady's cheeks when she walked out of the store.

I am black in a small town...I think I'm one of 2 black females here. My husband is a pretty big guy and a lot of people know him because he's their boss. (lol) I've gotten a few strange looks and one night I got the "white power" yell from a car full of assholes. I responded with a fuck you! because thats just what instantly came out of my mouth. I hope I'm never in that lady's predicament in a store or something because I know I wouldn't cry, I would calmly explain to the asshole that he's an inbred, uneducated, poor ignoramus etc. and get myself into trouble. I just have no patience for ignorance. I tell my son everyday to be careful and ignore anybody that says anything stupid but I know in my heart I probably couldn't do it.

Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 04:36 PM by pending
Whats the best that could possibly happen from such a scenario?

A: The cops would not charge him with a crime.

That leaves him where he is right now. Free

Whats the worst that could happen?

A: Get charged with a crime and thrown in jail.

Zero possible upside, lots of possible downside. = why call?

Remember, you can always talk later, but you can never not talk in the past.

24. The man threatened the OP with lethal violence
"Anyway, he is gonna kill me with all his guns and stuff, he promised."

The police should be told that fact. It is possible that they talked to the owner of the store first, and he included the threat in his report of the incident, thus obligating the police to investigate further.

The best case scenario is that the man who issued the death threat would be charged with assault.

26. True, but its too late
The dynamics of the situation changed when the guy called the cops on him. The perpetrator turned the tables on our forum-mate.

If he calls the cops back, everything he says will be viewed in the context of a defense. "everything you say can and will be used against you"..thats not a cliche.

Who calls the cops first is incredibly important in setting up the stage for expectations.

Unless he has the guy threatening him on tape, its virtually impossible now to un-reverse the tables.

Unless he has undeniable evidence of the threat, no good can come of returning the call.

28. I agree- but others have suggested hiring an attourney
and I believe that is the best advice that has been offered in this thread. The death threat should not be laughed off - it should be investigated. The best way to get that accomplished is to have his lawyer call the police back and start a dialogue.

which is what happened to me when i didn't call back the secret service in regard to a perceived "threat" to lil'boots over something i posted in response to a question on a message board(pre-9/11).
or- as also happened to me in a completely different issue many years earlier- there could end up being a bench warrant for your arrest that you know absolutely nothing about until you get stopped for speeding one night, and end up in a jail cell because of said warrant.

39. I heard something similar this week.
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 07:33 PM by LWolf
I live and work in a rural area. People here are seriously convinced that they'll lose their guns under an Obama administration.

A coworker asked me Friday, "Have you heard that they're going to be taking our concealed carry permits away next year?"

Me: "No, I hadn't heard anything about that. Who is going to take them?"

Him: (Looking at me signficantly, dropping his voice,) "The new administration. Applications have tripled locally since election day. Everybody knows they're coming for our guns."

While I think this is patently ridiculous, it's true that Obama has done nothing to inspire rural voters, just as the Democratic Party doesn't put forth much effort to reach out to rural voters and find ways to work with them.
