Secretary of State musings ........ |
|
..... so this story has everyone talking.
On the matter of Hillary Clinton, the fact is, she's qualified and well known around the world. The fact is, Bill Clinton remains very highly respected around the world. A freelancing SecState will last about 14 minutes. There are others who are as qualified and more so. None is so well know. On balance, I can see this as a net plus.
I am not excited about it.
So, if not her, then who?
The other three names are Kerry, Richardson, and Daschle. Okay. Any one of them would be okay, but why Daschle? Richardson I can see. Kerry I can see. But for all three, I ask, why?
Here's the deal. The Great Hope in the world today is Barack Obama.
Consider that.
The Great Hope in the world today in imbued fully in one Barack Obama.
That is NEW.
That is young.
That is energetic.
That is fresh.
That is not a name from the past.
Not that names from the past are bad. They're not. They're fine for any role from SecDef on down. But for our face to the world? Not so much.
I favor Susan Rice for the role. She has direct experience as an Undersecretary of State. She is serious and smart. She is from Obama's inside circle. She is most believable as *his* envoy.
Yeah .... that's who I think would be our best bet.
Dr. Susan Rice.

6. You misunderstood what that was intended to mean .... it isn't about a cult of personality |
|
It is about the commonly held view in the rest of the world, not here. To be sure, there's no cult out there for him. There's a pragmatic view that the change in US leadership (and therefore, foreign policy) is long overdue. There is an impatience to get things done (like climate change, for instance) with the US's involvement instead of in spite of it.
So my comment went to making our foreign policy face that of Obama and not some name from the past.
Hence, Susan Rice.

7. obama is simply a reflection of modern reality in the rest of the world. |
|
they won't see him as the Great Hope -- they will se him as someone who more accurately looks like the rest of the world.
