An update on my Dad for all the wonderful DU'ers who wished him well.

First, a big thank you for your kind comments and well wishes. I didn't expect that so many of you would be touched by his story. I mean, I was, but he's my Dad. :) And I apologize for not replying to all of you. I posted on the fly, then didn't have much time to spend on the computer.

Second, I wanted to give you an update: he's doing great! Today they took him off the feeding tube, and although Mom had to feed him, he was able to swallow soup on his own. He's got a board now with the alphabet so he can communicate more easily. Mom says his spelling and grammar are perfect. And he's spelling out jokes!

He can talk a little now, though weakly. His left side is also very weak (a shame, because he's left-handed) but nothing is paralyzed. He did get a little confused about time--he saw the 14 on the calendar but didn't read November, so he had the nurse put a big sign on the wall wishing Mom a happy birthday. Hey, that was a month ago, but what a sweet mistake to make. :)

And I know exactly what to get him for his stay in the hospital--a big Yes We Did T-shirt!

One last thing--my Mom is having some computer trouble after a power outtage and for the time being can't get online. But I passed along all your well wishes, and she asked me to send her a link to the thread for later.
