1. Considering the record profits of Exxon-Mobil, for 2 quarters in a row..that makes perfect sense.

I didn't get to see it, but my husband said he was great. He said he now has a bigger crush on Ashton Kutcher than our twelve year old daughter does.

Kutcher has the intellect of a turnip. He's dim even by Hollywood standards. We do ourselves a disservice by hitching our causes to celebrities.

30. Yeah, I agree
I don't think he was good on the show. He's also not a good actor, he isn't funny, and needs to go away all together. I'm kind of annoyed he was on the show. It was the last show of the season so I was hoping for a great episode. With Ashton there plus all of the US auto bashing I really didn't enjoy that episode.

...Rob Thomas or Ben Affleck, but he wasn't as annoying as I figured he would be. The exchange between him and Dan Savage was pretty funny.

Poor Dan Savage. I love the guy, and usually he holds his own, but the few minutes I caught of him on Larry King Live, and then Kutcher telling him he'd never go out with him -- it looked like a rough night :(

17. Great idea b/c they can easily afford it.
Our government and us taxpayers can't.

For the oil companies to be able to bailout the Big 3 would be like us going down to the corner market & buying a pack of gum. A drop in the bucket compared to their record profits.

22. You know, for someone who is usually a dumb ass, he's got a good idea there.
Before everyone blasts me --- I was using humor, not quite sarcasm, but a little poke at his career.

On the 70's show his character got called "dumb ass" a lot, cause that was what "Red" called everyone except his wife.

I know Ashton is a lot smarter than the characters he plays --- and he's got Demi to talk to who is a pretty intelligent person too.

23. Isn't Free Markets What They Wanted???
That always was a euphanism for letting the fat cats do whatever they want to whomever they want as long as they make big profits. The old "the business of America is business" game. For decades we were told the markets would be their own regulators...if a company failed, it deserved to do so...someone else either was delivering the product better or someone else would. Throwing the government in now turns these corporations into collectievs...once they know they can running hat in hand to the government to fix their failures, the less "free market" they become. It's a lesson of what destroyed the Soviet Union. Our markets were never really "free".

The oil companies won't lift a finger to help the auto industry...why should they when they've got a skittish government that will always blink first. There are also many in the financial sector who made billions on the rising oil prices...and those profits and prices were the hedges for many against the falling housing bubble. The oil companies know their biggest protection right now is to keep the dividends flowing, the profits high and the lobbyists and politicians well greased.

Cheers...

Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 07:52 AM by Canuckistanian
If ever you doubted for ONE SECOND that car companies are on the side of Big Oil, watch "Who Killed the Electric Car"

Time for some payback to the auto industry.

43. Well, That's Setting the Bar EXTREMELY Low
I didn't see the show, so I shouldn't bash the boy, but I DID see "Dude, Where's My Car?", so the odds of me taking Ashton Kutcher seriously on any topic other than how good he looks without his shirt on are not good.

I wouldn't confuse a character he plays while acting with his true self. Unfortunately, too many people think that actors are like the characters they play. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Since he's from Iowa, how would he feel about ending corn subsidies? Government handouts are government handouts. Except in the US auto industry's case, the handout they want would be paid back.
