Is Obama playing Clinton on the Secretary of State job?

Some speculation on Hardball suggested the Obama camp was deliberately letting Clinton's concerns about the job leak out, making it look like she was being difficult or demanding certain concessions.

That would allow Obama to appoint someone else while coming off as someone that tried to extend an olive branch.

Thoughts?

  I think she may be bristling at the level of disclosure which President-Elect Obama requires. Just a guess. I don't think it would be a deal-breaker- unless she is still seriously aspiring to 2012.

her as he does, and she is a Senator on an important committee that I'm sure requires a great deal of clearance, plus First Lady of Arkansas and US. What further vetting do you think she requires?

  Vetting is something President-Elect Obama's team does to Sen. Clinton. Disclosure is something Sen. Clinton does for the Obama Administration. Now, if you simply use the questionnaire provided for would-be Obama aids as a rubric for the kinds of disclosures required of Sen. Clinton, you may see why I think she really might be considering it "out loud". I think she'd be willing to go through the entire, lengthy, financial disclosure process if she doesn't plan on running in 2012. Otherwise, I think she would. But the conflict of interest claims are legitimate questions, and they remain.

  He knows the Republicans (and Joe Lieberman) will be actively working to hammer away at any and every move, appointment, etc. he makes. I think he's willing to take on some of her baggage, but only if she (and other would-be members of his cabinet, this isn't specific to her) give what may be an unprecedented level of disclosure about the entire spectrum of their activities- as a bulwark against any Rethug charges sticking.

  BTW, if you checked out the questionnaire I link to- what do you make of the (name?) just to the left of Question 31, which is a perfect example of the kind of question I'm not sure she or Bill really want to answer.
