No to Prop H8 Houston pics!
It was a beautiful day, a bit chilly and breezy. There was a good turnout of probably 800 or more people. Lots of great signs. One of the speakers said, "Just the straight allies raise your signs!" I think about 1/3 of the crowd raised their signs! WestHoustonDem and I were included in that third! :pals:

This was my favorite sign...

Or maybe this one... LOL!

I loved the diversity of the crowd... ages, races, styles... there were goths, punks, hippies, preppies, kids, parents, grandparents, body builders, business men and women, etc. Alternative lifestyle? No, this is REAL AMERICA. Sexuality has nothing to do with it. It's about equal rights.

14. Thanks intheflow!
I love the dual meaning of the sign... obviously the primary message is pro-gay marriage, but by using such an outdated expression, it shows how antiquated the thinking of the opposition is.

We have a very creative population! Despite our Republican affliction (which is changing rapidly!), we have had a pretty strong contingent of creative, progressive, outspoken people.

30. those slogans are better/smarter than the angry ones in San Francisco

not all, just the angry ones I don't necessarily think serve the purpose in public - but what do I know.

"Focus" is my fave!

I would have been at the Austin rally yesterday, but I had already volunteered to help build a home with Habitat for Humanity a while back. I was with you in spirit though. Looks like the Austin rally had a good turnout too.

Prop 8 rally draws thousands to City Hall
Austin among the cities across the state and nation where Prop 8 protested

By Suzannah Gonzales
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Sunday, November 16, 2008

Disappointed and angry about the passage of Proposition 8 in California last week , at least 2,000 people crowded Austin City Hall Plaza on Saturday afternoon to support equal rights and legal marriage for those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender.

Gay rights supporters cheered, chanted and waved rainbow colors in Austin and in cities across the country protesting the vote that banned gay marriage in California. Tens of thousands of people joined protests in Houston, Dallas and Arlington as well as Boston, San Francisco and Chicago, renewing efforts to make gay marriage legal.
