12. The news tonight said "several dozen."
Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 10:22 PM by Blue_In_AK
I would have guessed somewhere between 75 and 100. Not a bad turnout for Anchorage this time of year. I was so impressed with how supportive the bystanders and people in the passing cars were. Lots of honks and peace signs, some people just curiously watching, but there was no ugliness at all. Maybe we really ARE making some progress. It makes me feel good about my fellow Alaskans...especially after weeks of the "Sarah and Ted Show." :)

7. Not Prop 8 - Florida Amendment 2 Protest
Passage of marriage amendment in Florida prompts protest march on Capitol
By Bruce Ritchie and Paul de Revere • DEMOCRAT WRITERS • November 15, 2008

Passage of Florida’s marriage amendment prompted an estimated crowd of 350 people to march Saturday on the Capitol in protest.

Participants chanted slogans such as “keep hope alive” and waved banners calling for equal rights for gays and lesbians. They marched from the Westcott building at Florida State University to the steps of the Old Capitol, where they gave speeches and waved signs at honking cars.

Approved by 62 percent of Florida voters Nov. 4, the state constitutional amendment further tightened Florida’s definition of marriage to exclude same-sex and non-traditional unions. In Leon County, 55 percent of voters approved the measure.

Tom Bendle, a protest organizer, said the goal was to begin a petition to overturn the amendment in 2010. He said the amendment hurts gay and straight people in domestic relationships by restricting job benefits to unmarried partners.

“I think a lot of people didn’t understand exactly what it meant by limiting these rights,” he said.

Amendment 2 supporters say the measure is intended to strengthen families. They say children need both a mother and a father.

But protestors equated the amendment with discrimination and a trampling of civil rights.

Video from Seattle!

There were eight anti-Proposition 8 rallies across Washington Saturday, but perhaps none were bigger than the one held in Seattle. Seattle Police say roughly 6,000 people took part in a rally and march from Volunteer Park to Westlake Center.
