In 2006, Media Matters conducted a study on Sunday political talk shows, finding that “Republicans and conservatives have been offered more opportunities to appear on the Sunday shows - in some cases, dramatically so.” From 2001 to 2005, conservative guests outnumbered progressives “by 58 percent to 42 percent.” Atrios notes that tomorrow’s shows will also be dominated by conservative guests:

7 Appearances by Republican current elected officeholders
3 Appearances by Democratic current elected officeholders.
2 Appearances by Republican former elected officeholders.
1 Appearance by a Bush Cabinet Secretary.
T. Boone Pickens
Ted Turner.

If it's Sunday, it's the conservative movement's agenda.

Well gee whiz
You expect the producers of these shows to just turn on a dime? I mean, the Republicans have been in power for just soooo long! They can't suddenly start just booking all these arrivistes. Who knows if the Democrats are going to hold onto power? Better to just keep booking all the old familiar Republican and conservative names. That's what people want. This week's topic: Why don't the American people pay attention to us anymore? We're still making god-like pronouncements, right Newt? Tom? Donald?

1. What was the makeup of Congress from 2001 - 2005?
That explains it. I'm assuming the disparity ended after 2005, or else the article in the OP would say "from 2001-2008" instead of "from 2001-2005". The party in power generally makes more news and noise than the party that is out of power.
