Chambliss Refusing to Speak in Imperial Sugar Case
http://www.wsav.com/midatlantic/sav/news.apx.-content-articles-SAV-2008-11-14-0044.html

By Alice Massimi\E-mail | Biography

News Three was the first to tell you Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss had been subpoenaed by Savannah Attorney Mark Tate in the case against Imperial Sugar.
Tate, who represents families of the deceased, subpoenaed Chambliss because he believes Chambliss has pertinent information for the case.
In a News Three follow-up, we've gotten word that Chambliss' lawyer is moving to quash the subpoena.
Tate says attorneys for Chambliss claim he has immunity because he's a U.S. Senator.

1. Talk about dumb lawyers!
When Nixon and Clinton can be subpeonaed to testify in civil cases, so can a Senator.

Chambliss's lawyers are going to throw every stupid argument imaginable at this case in order to get him past the upcoming runoff. There is no way in hell he's going to show his redneck face in court until AFTER the outcome of Dec 2nd.

3. Here is some background on why Chambliss was subpoenaed.

An Imperial Sugar Co. executive's lawyer says the company put U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss up to harassing his client at a subcommittee hearing.

Near the end of the Tuesday session in Washington, the Georgia Republican lit into Graham H. Graham, Imperial's vice president of operations.

"I believe Chambliss was espousing the company line in an effort to discredit and blunt Mr. Graham's testimony," the attorney, Philip Hilder, said Wednesday.

Chambliss denied that, saying he spoke on behalf of the families of the 13 people killed as a result of the Feb. 7 explosions and fire at the Port Wentworth refinery.

Chambliss is not a member of the subcommittee. He was invited as a courtesy because he is a Georgia senator, said subcommittee spokesman Matt McAlvanah.

(end snips)
