The weekly tv variety show (60's) format returns! (John Mayer to host)
Yay!

OK, call me hokey but I have great 'family' memories of watching variety shows like 'Carol Burnett', 'Laugh-In', 'Smothers Brothers', 'Donny and what's-er-face', 'Ed Sullivan' etc.... there's something quaint and comforting about the return of this format. Especially have a young child now... there is nothing really suitable for family enjoyment on the tee vee. I hope Mayer pulls it off!

We've learned Mayer will host a weekly variety show for CBS. And here's the deal. We know CBS would like to run the show as soon as possible -- the goal is the first quarter of 2009.

It will be a music, variety and sketch show in the '60s mold. Ken Ehrlich (who produces the Emmys and Grammys) will produce the show with Mayer.

But here's the best part. CBS execs saw Mayer's big appearance on TMZ and were impressed, so we're taking credit -- but only if it works. Watch and vote.

1. I look forward to it.
But I may be too old to appreciate contemporary talent.

8. Real 'talent' transcends age. I love Mayer. And I'm a croakette.

I have never heard of John Mayer.

But if you like him, that's good enough for me.

16. For a big guy, he's kinda soft.
I just watched parts of a couple of YouTube videos of his trio.

Maybe I should send you one of my CDs.

9. Had to look up John Mayer. I guess I'm old.
I just listened to "Daughters" on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f38Ne96R3iE) and "Your body is a wonderland" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJNE31Ndme0&feature=related). Reminds me of Michael Franks a bit.

10. Rosie is doing one too.
I think it begins the day before Thanksgiving? She will be using a lot of Broadway talent.

I am pleased JM will also be doing this. It will be so nice.

17. Kill me now. Please.
I'd rather eat glass than be subject to Rosie O'Donnell. Especially with a 'variety show'. :banghead:

25. well... I will say, per a live filming of "The View" back when she was on
she was the NICEST of the ladies.. spoke to the audience during EVERY break, and not in an'"I'm a celeb and you're not' condescending way; she was conversational and down-to-earth. She also paid for knapsacks for every audience member for her entire run on the show. I am telling you, she was NICE. The other hosts spoke to the audience once or twice EXCEPT for ELisabeth Hasselback who was a first-class BITCH. She never said a word, never thanked us for coming (we waited outside the studio in the cold for 2 hours, nothing. She was a SNIT.

BTW, I collected $200 in gift cards, plus a bunch of products one of their guests brought and Rosie's knapsack. NOT BAD.
