Rightwinger reason for invading Iraq: Because we COULD! |
|
I'm serious. No joke. He actually said that like it was some sort of justification.
I told him: Well, hey, I can come and set fire to your house, too. Is that okay, as well?

1. Actually, that answer makes a lot of sense according to the Bully Theory of Diplomacy |

Bullies will NEVER take on an equal, they go after kids they can kick around with impunity.
Consequently, the US as an enraged bully in the international playground after Sep 11, chose to kick Iraq, because we wanted oil. The equivalent of their lunch money.

is when you make a thoughtful effort to point out the wrongness of our going to Iraq in the first place, the classic and often used conservative response and excuse for not getting out - "Well we are already there." I've heard that a hundred times. Don't take responsibility for a stupid decision just keep listening to limbaugh.
And I've heard that a hundred times from mostly people who have not served one fucking second in the military.

3. That was Tom Friedman's reason too. |
|
That's why I will always despise him, no matter how much he pretends to be a "liberal".

4. Are you talking about "The World is Flat" Tom Friedman? |
|
There ain't no pretending he's a liberal. He's flat out lying. He ain't no liberal.

5. I think he tries to pass himself off as such, and a surprising number |

of people are taken in by it. He certainly helped to legitimize the Iraq invasion amongst certain liberal types.
I happened to catch an NPR interview with him a few months after the invasion, and he was absolutely vile.
