The Kansas Republican Party has suspended party voting privileges for 17 precinct leaders in Johnson County who gave donations to Democrats running for public office this year.

The loss of those votes could have an impact on the election tonight of a new Johnson County party chairman, vice chairman, secretary and treasurer.
Only precinct committeemen and committee women elected in the August Republican primary are eligible to vote. The election is scheduled for Blue Valley Northwest High School.
Two slates of candidates_ one supported by moderates and the other by conservatives_ are expected to be offered tonight. More than 600 GOP precinct leaders will be eligible to vote.

Jim Neighbor of Shawnee was one of the 17 Republicans. His wife is Rep. Cindy Neighbor, a Shawnee Democrat.
Neighbor said the letter he received pointed out that he had provided an in-kind contribution of beverages to a campaign fund-raiser for his wife.<skip>
Among the 18 on the original list were a former Kansas senator, Audrey Langworthy; a former candidates for the Kansas Board of Education, Mary Ca Ralstin, and a former state representative, David Huff, and his wife Patricia Huff. Patricia Huff said her husband donated money to the campaign of Lisa Benlon, a Democrat who was elected earlier this month as state representative for the 22nd District in Johnson County.
