enate Dem leadership expected to allow Lieberman to keep Homeland Security chairmanship.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/11/17/lieberman-chairmanship/

Roll Call reports that when Senate Democrats meet tomorrow to discuss Sen. Joe Lieberman’s (I-CT) future, the Democratic leadership is “expected to propose that he keep his gavel at the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee but lose his Environment and Public Works subcommittee chairmanship.” The paper describes the proposal as only a “slap on the wrist” for Lieberman since Lieberman “may not lose much” if his subcommittee chairmanship is stripped:

Taking the subcommittee on global warming away from Lieberman may be seen as a stinging rebuke, given that he used the panel to push himself to the forefront of the climate change debate in the Senate earlier this year. However, Environment and Public Works Chairman Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) plans to deal with climate change legislation at the full committee level next year, which means Lieberman may not lose much even if his colleagues vote to strip him of that plum assignment.

Kos calls the plan “not acceptable,” quipping that “given the Senate Democrats’ history of capitulations, expect Lieberman to come out of that meeting as majority leader.” CNN’s Dana Bash reports that Lieberman “is not happy about” the plan, but will accept it. Watch it:

2. This guy is a traitor to the party
I would get rid of his leadership positions and let him make up his mind if he will go with the GOP.

3. Do they have any rationale for this at all - or was it a simple cash deal?
Edited on Mon Nov-17-08 06:56 PM by Dragonfli
It would seem that the constituency does not matter at all(our voices have been rather across the board and clear).

Neither does his shitty record in that position appear to matter (not a single Bush subpoena)
Nether does attacking the party directly and in a very nasty way (the election)
Neither would it seem does it matter that he advocates a non filibuster-proof Majority Senate.
Neither does it matter that he lied about many things - including accepting the will of his constituency in his senate Primary Race.

The sad thing is I could go on and on and on.

Maybe they should just stop letting us vote and refuse all mail from us as we appear to be little more than a nuisance to them.

Who do they work for in the end Joe?

4. The "leadership" had better not do this. They will have millions of angry Americans after them if

they do. There are *many* good incoming Democrats who would be better suited for this seat. Strip that SOB of all of his seniority.

5. How can anybody trust Lieberman to do anything??
How can anybody trust Lieberman to do anything??
Bayh was wrong. They can't just yank the chairmanship from him. It would be open to filibuster. The Dems did it when The Rs wanted to oust Mark Hatfield years ago. Lieberman is out for Lieberman. He will do what he wants, and they better hope it is what they want.
As far a 60votes go, why would anybody count on Lieberman for that?? I don't see an upside to keeping him in that position. It's too important.
Unless, as I read somewhere, they would dissolve that committee. Don't know how that works either.
This is very upsetting to me!! Why do you reward a traitor? He dissed all of us and enjoyed it.

14. Correction "Middle" - you said Right - Right is the new Middle and
Slightly left of center is the new Communism.

You have missed a few memos, you must not be one of the new "hip" Democrats.
Are you now sir, or have you ever been, a member of the Communists party?
I am afraid I must ask you as you appear to be "dangerous".

10. Not true. They expect a complete re-branding of the policies...
of the last 8 years....

Now, it is true that the 1% paying attention will be profoundly disappointed, but the other 99% will be infused with a sense of hope for a good 2 - 3 years.

12. lieberman doesn't even represent connecticut democrats!!! it's the REPUBLICAN who voted him in!!
remember, not only did connecticut democrats reject him in the primaries, but we voted for ned lamont, the actual democratic nominee, in the general election. the republican got only NINE percent of the vote because all the rest of the connecticut REPUBLICANS voted for lieberman.

want to know why lieberman has acted so much like a republican in the last 2 years? BECAUSE HE OWES HIS JOB TO THE REPUBLICANS!!

there is NO good reason AT ALL to pretend he's a democrat. even lieberman knows who's buttering his bread these days. why can't our democratic leadership?

15. Here's my prediction,
If they let Benedict Lieberman keep that Chairmanship, the Senate dems will regret it on day one and on every succeeding day thereafter.
