Holy Joe is laughing up his sleeve at us fringe activists...

who thought he should not be chairman of the powerful Homeland Security Department. They will let him keep that chairmanship. Then they will give him a wee little slap on the wrist and take away a lesser appointment.

From Talking Points Memo

Source: Dem Leaders Will Propose Slap On The Wrist For Joe Lieberman

At the Senate Democrats' caucus meeting tomorrow, the leadership is likely to propose that Joe Lieberman keep his powerful homeland security committee chairmanship but lose his lesser chairmanship of an environment and public works subcommittee, a source tells TPM.

More here:

Source: Dem Leadership Will Propose That Lieberman Keep Homeland Security Chairmanship

When Senate Dems caucus tomorrow, the Democratic leadership is likely to propose that he keep his Homeland Security chairmanship but lose a lesser sub-committee chairmanship instead, according to a source familiar with the situation.

If it happens that way, Senate Dems will be allowing Lieberman to keep his plum spot despite the fact that he has been a disaster at the post, and despite the fact that he endorsed efforts by the GOP to imply that Obama is in league with terrorists, suggested that Obama endangered our troops, and said Obama hasn't always put the country first.

According to the source, the Dem leadership is expected to propose instead that Lieberman be stripped of his chairmanship of a lesser Environment and Public Works subcommittee, a comparatively meaningless punitive action.

Joe gets the laugh last again.

1. Democrats lack the fortitude for confrontation. This is why a lot of people don't vote for Ds.
Simply because people don't want a leadership that appears indecisive. Obama won, though, because Republicans were pretty decisive at being incompetent.

3. That is the legacy of the corporate takeover by the DLC/PPI
They for decades have taught that we should not be confrontational.

The lesson was learned well, and now they would rather be confrontational with the activists of their own party than the GOP.

5. And I, as well, Solly. Trying to be patient, but these are NOT good signs.

Not at all.

Hell, Obama hasn't even taken office and, as one knows, history shows institutional mentality change does not happen overnight. (if such is even possible for the species of spineless jellyfish known as Democratica Congressionus Leadershipicus)

So, as in 2006's "victory that was not a victory", I am already concerned at what my lying eyes are already seeing.

But we all must be patient and give Obama time. Maybe his unity strategy (God help me, I am choking on saying it) isn't naive and WON'T be rewarded by peals of Bushie Laughter All The Way To The Bank, the same way it always has been as long as I have been alive.

15. Thank goodness Pelosi and Reid honored the will of the people and ended the war in Iraq in 2006
Otherwise things might seem rather dire.

earlier, and she is disgusted that there is even a remote chance that LIEber*(&^ will keep any chair position. She called him a damned weasel whereas, most of the repubs around here adore him.

I suppose I'll have to call her back and tell her that common sense, which she mentioned, means nothing and she's being included in the lunatic left wing fringe! :woohoo: Way to go Mom!

edit: To make clear that some recovering repukes are disgusted by this...I'm a natural smart ass and clarification is needed at times.

9. Is your mom on the Senate Caucus?
'Cause if she is, she can slap some sense into the other members.

10. No, sorry, she's just a citizen who has turned against the
repuke party that a few years ago she would hiss through her teeth to defend. She's not the only one that I've come into contact with, though. I was merely trying to mention that it's not just the base of the democratic party, or the left wing fringe, that the Dems in the Senate are pissing off with this lack of action against LIEber*^%$. :hi:

In his capacity as watchdog over the government, his committee was FAMOUS for doing nothing.

Is this REALLY the dawn of a new era?

8. I am entertaining a fantasy
that there is method to this madness, that the Dem Leadership is playing along with this line until some condition is met - planetary alignment, ducks in a row, all Senate races finalized, whatever - and then they'll cut Joe's rope.

What can I say? I'm a born optimist.
