"The United States' clandestine service wants you"
That is a line from an ad I heard on WTOP, DC's noozradio. Yup, the CIA is looking for spies. And they aren't euphemizing it.

From their own web site:

"Make a difference in your career. Consider the global employment opportunities at the CIA. We're looking for a diversity of people for the important job of keeping America safe. This includes Clandestine Service Officers to be on the front line of human intelligence. Plus, individuals skilled in science, engineering, technology, analysis, foreign languages and administration for positions in the United States and overseas."

1. I applied for an analyst position a year ago.
Took the tests, sent in the paperwork they needed for a background test, never heard from them again. Guess they don't like me.

3. Hmmmm. They usually troll BYU for recruits.
Yes, there are a lot of Mormons in the CIA and FBI. They are some of their best recruits. Kinda scary, eh?

4. It's because Mormons fulfill the language requirements very nicely.
You have some Mormons who speak languages spoken only by 400 or so people in remote valleys in Papua New Guinea. It's because of their missionary work obviously.

5. actually, I suspect it has more to do with LDS having relatively few vices....
They pass through the FBI and CIA vice filters more easily than most other groups of Americans.

7. Hmmm. Maybe I'll apply
even though I am getting a bit long in the tooth. It's not like I'm wanting to be Bond, James Bond, .007 that is. I'd just be one of their scientific types mucking around in a lab for say 80 or 90K annually. What the hell? I'd live in DC for that. In truth I think a part of me always wanted to be a spook. Actually though, I doubt the whole idea is very likely. Age issues aside, I expect after the background check they'd be wondering whether they should hire me or monitor me. }(
